Dr. Tremaine at the Mayo recommended I get a take-down!

I was just at the Mayo yesterday having an MRI and sigmoid/ileoscopy. After the results came in I met with Dr. Tremaine and he thinks I should go for a reversal. I still have my rectum and sigmoid colon, so I'll be hooking back up to that. Anyone have experience with being reconnected without having a J-Pouch? I know this is an ileostomy forum, but if you could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. My one worry is that I do have some continuing mild signs of Crohn's, such as a few minor ulcers in my terminal ileum and some inflammation in my rectum and sigmoid that may or may not be due to diversion. I'm taking Cimzia to control that and it's been working pretty well.

I've had my ileostomy for just over a year now and I actually don't mind it too much at this point now that I have pretty solid control over it. However, I would love to have it reversed and now that I have the opportunity I'm going to go for it. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Find out what types of tests you need to BE SURE that your Crohn's will not exacerbate or become real active again if you are reconnected, especially if you are doing OK with the ileostomy. The more surgery we have the more apt we are to form adhesions that may (or may not) cause issues. I speak from experience as mine caused severe small bowel obstruction issues. I did not have Crohn's mine was a whole 'nother story. But by personal experience I can say get fully tested prior to having a take down. Do research of your own, check with Mayo, then check with some other hospital web sites, or even get a few other opinions. You want this to work and work well if it is done.
