I started working full time again last week. Stamina and energy wise I feel like I've been doing great. But in the last week or so I feel like I've had a doubling (at least) of output. I have been a little concerned that I may not make it to the bathroom in time. Every two hours or so I have a FULL bag..... And I'm not eating more than normal. If anything I'm eating on a more regular schedule because of work. Does anyone know why this could be happening??

I actually had diahrea recently, but it wasn't as frequent as yours. Is yours liquid and green? If it is it could be a blockage or you may even have an absess. If your drinking too many liquids it'll be runny. Try some thickening foods. They helped me. Don't worry too much. Having an ostomy can do crazy things and it can be very frustrating. But it will get better. Just keep doing what you're doing: ask questions, but keep your spirits up :)

My thoughts are similar to Lauren's - are you also having a good deal of gas as well?

When my son's ileostomy output increased, his doctor prescribed some tablets to take which slowed the transit down and thickened the output.  The reason for his increased output was inflammation in his small intestine - which caused the food to not be absorbed - are you also loosing weight?  He is in complete remission now due to a stem cell transplant for his crohn's.

jmhis34: I have been having a good deal of gas. What could this be? I also had some severe pain recently that seemed to go away in a day or so. My output is so high my bag actually darn near FILLED completely in the middle of the night last night. Thankfully I woke up before anything busted and I ended up with a huge mess on my hands. The whole thing is very strange. I know things change as your body adapts to the ostomy, and I'm only 4 months out of surgery. But this is all so new even in the realm of new things I've learned......

Try staying away from sugar and sugar substitutes. Also no caffeine and no fruit juice. Try to just drink water for your fluids. Also too much salt can really increase your output. Rosemary
