It's good that you are getting your concerns out...you have a very grown up daughter who realizes she wants to live her life! Quality of life is important when you are that age...well, any age! Your friends don't truly understand the hardships of an IBD and how it affects the person AND all those around them.
I have Crohn's so I didn't have a choice. I just wish I had had my proctocolectomy years earlier!
Like it has been mentioned, the first year has many ups and down, but don't let that discourage you. There is also something to be said for youth
