deodorizer for colostomy

I need to find something for ador controll for my colostomy ...I have tried everything I have spent a small fortune trying to find something , to no avail... confused For the last ten years I have isolated myself from everyone because of the odor , I have heard of all the things that ppl have tried and even tried it , but absolutely nothing has worked, I have been on every web site that I could find and still cant find anything , there has to be something out there..Please any help would be greatly apperciated...Thanks

Try 3% hydrogen peroxide (no stronger than the 3%). It's found in the first aid section of your supermarket - used for cuts and bruises and even as a mouthwash.

It doesn't just cover up odour - it elimates it! I wouldn't be without for work! Just a capful in your bag each time you empty should do the trick.

     The peroxide doesn't seem to do the trick for me.  It depends on what you eat throughout the day.  Some foods, such as fish, leave a real stinky odor smhair .  I use the Adapt Lubricating deodorizer and sometimes the Reliamed odor eliminator drops.  However, try eating wintergreen mints, the Life Saver ones.  I ate about ten of those before going to a show at the Borgata Casino and thank GOD I did.  My bag broke during the show and I didn't even realize it.  I went directly to the Ladies Room afterwards and saw the bag had split and poo was oozing out,...ugh.  It smelled minty..mmmm....LOL.  I since switched to Coloplast one piece bags, the Hollister is the one that split, and I haven't had any more "accidents".

I think with Colostomies, the odor is worse. NOTHING worked for me except for the M9 drops from Hollister. Until that, I was worried I would be a loner and my house reeked! Now, it's FINE.... I bought a little travel bottle I can tuck in my purse when I go out.

Maybe colostomies are different.

Hubby has an ileostomy and the hydrogen peroxide suggestion has made a big difference. Thanks Shaz!

On a different board there are several people who are able to "irrigate" their colostomies. It sounds like it takes an hour a day but then that is it until the next day and no pouches to empty. Not sure if something like that is viable for you or interests you but thought I would just mention it if that is a better alternative.

I agree with Ron. I have an ileostomy, and Hollister M9 drops work the best for me. You can buy them cheaper on eBay, if you don't have insurance.

I've tried 3% hydrogen peroxide, but the bubbles it produces makes my pouch blow up like a balloon, and mouthwash just made the output smell like minty poo, which is just wrong! smilewinkgrin

Hmmmm the peroxide doesn't seem to have that balloon effect for hubby. Maybe his diet (little or no gassy foods?) keeps it at bay. Plus we just tried some samples of the hollister lock and roll pouches with the filters. I know the filters are supposedly only good for the first day but so far he prefers them over the other.

A QUESTION about DEODORIZERS:
I was looking online at them and found the Hollister M9 8oz bottle for $22.44
and another one called Smith and Nephew Banish II for $38.02. That's a big difference in price.
Does anyone know if the Smith and Nephew is worth the price? (These are both Amazon prices)
