I have worked at a church since 1997 and started out as a graphic designer/desktop publisher. Unfortunately, I got sick with Crohn's in 1999 and was moved from that job to receptionist/data entry secretary, since there were no deadlines to meet and volunteers could fill in for me if I was out sick. It felt like a demotion at first, but I was thankful to have a job and health benefits, and took on design projects every chance I could in order to keep things interesting.
Well, thanks to my ostomy, being healthy and having lots of energy, I've come full circle and am back to doing graphic design again! Our designer left two weeks ago to freelance, and I've been doing his job and mine in the interim. It has been super busy, but I'm loving it! I applied for his job, did a few impromptu design projects for them, and got the job! I'll also be managing our website, which is something new, but he trained me on how to do it. They're also going to hire a friend of mine to take over the secretary job on Monday, so I'm happy about
that, too!
I just wanted to share a positive, success story from someone who understands what a toll disease, medicines, and surgery can take on your life, but once you're through it and are healthy again, you can get back to doing the things you love!
