Da Vinci Surgical System for J Pouch?

Has anyone had their J Pouch performed using the Da Vinci system? I have a consultation with who appears to be a very good surgeon in the South Florida area and he specializes in using the Da Vinci system for his surgeries, including the J Pouch. If anyone has had it, what were your thoughts? From what I've read, it's less blood loss, small incisions, less recovery time, less pain and return to normal diet much faster.

You might get more feedback by posting this at www.j-pouch.org. That site has over 6000 jpouchers and there's more of a likelihood that someone might know of the surgeon and the procedure. Personally I have never heard of Da Vinci but I have heard of lapracopic. I don't buy the claims of returning to a normal diet much faster but recovery might be quicker.

yeah, posted there as well so hopefully will get a few responses that will help in my decision. The system looks pretty impressive...its pretty amazing how far technology has come...especially compared to when my sister had her J Pouch done 17 years ago.

Yes but for this surgery I would still choose surgeon over style of surgery. If you can get this procedure and he's a top surgeon, then you're in good hands.

from what I've read so far, he seems very impressive but until I get to talk to him about the specific procedure and experience with it, I won't know for sure. I find it amazing that the surgeon barely has to lay his hands on you anymore.

Gordon: when you have your consult, be sure to ask under what conditions he would not he able to use that system to do your particular surgery. I say this because there are situations where a surgeon needs to do an open/traditional surgery and you should find out if any of those apply to you and your case.

thanks...yeah, I read that somewhere on his site about that...I believe they do a small incision below the belly button and do a little exploring to confirm to see if they can continue or have to go the conventional route.
