coming off 6 mp

I was on 6 mp for 5 years and came off when my colon was removed anyone else with any side effects or issues coming off it?

they should take you off slowly. you might have some headaches, but i didnt have anything big

     I was on it for seven years and my GI doctor took me off it two weeks prior to starting Remicade.  I didn't notice any difference.  All meds failed and I had my operation last June 28th.

If I recall I went off it cold turkey and that was fine. My doctor always told me 6-MP takes about three months to start working because your body "notices" its effects very slowly. I would assume it would be the same (in reverse) going off of it.

I stopped it for a year and did it suddenly, no reducing doses. I presumed that I would get less colds and chest infections as whilst on it would catch every cold going round. Ironically I had more colds and chest infections and even laryngitis for a month during the year I was off it. My GI said he wasn't surprised and he implied it can take a long time for some people to improve their immune system.

Anyway back on it now as huge flare up of CD and will stay on it from now on and also taking Humira and pred.

I also went off it cold turkey, no problem. I don't think this is a drug that needs to be weaned from.

actually after i thought about it, it was the immuran i had to be taken off of slowly, but they are pretty close to the same thing.  I'm not sure why they told me that, but two GI's and  my regular dr all said it was best to go off it slowly, and it can take up to 6 months to get out of your system.

I thought i would get less colds too, but i was sick more often, but i think it was because while i was on the immuran/6mp i was very careful about handwashing, and staying away from anyone with a cold, all that, because i knew it weakened my immune system and afterwards, while i still wash my hands and such, i wasn't as careful
