Hey...not Suebear... but Dillon had the same thing. My understanding was that they left part of the rectal tissue between having the colectomy and having the J pouch built. This is to keep the anal tissue healthy. Dillon's rectum was badly diseased but it did not cause him problems while waiting for his J pouch. We were told that it is because there is no stool passing over the ulcers so it is usually not painful. He did still have a little bleeding. When the pouch is built the rectal tissue is stripped away and the pouch is attached to the anal tissue. This is how I understood it.

Yes, my rectum was severely diseased. I had my rectal cuff, the last 1cm of rectal tissue, stripped. That's called a mucosectomy. A mucosectomy removes all UC cells and is only done by very skilled surgeons because if done wrong, one could become incontinent.
My surgeon is one of the most experienced surgeons in the US and does this procedure beautifully.
