Blue,
Oh so you are a teacher too. Yeah cruises LOTS less energy. I did a detailed analysis comparing the two for my LTD ins. Co. Easy telling those people have never taught. Yeah, a made-for-TV fiction movie...there's an idea! hehehe!
Christine,
Summer is right. If you want to cruise, do so. All the major lines have great medical facilities. I did pass out from dehydration in South America and the doc on the Regent had it all sized up in a jiffy. When I came to I was on my second bag of IV fast drip. These ship docs have to be well versed. I can recommend Regent. They also cater to an older crowd. I think if you avoid the "kid ships" like carnival, roayal caribbean, disney, etc you stand less of a chance of germs as older people are more immune. BUT like Summer said you could get Norovirus anywhere and anytime. Cunard is also very good. BUT even they had an outbreak on my world cruise and that is the 3 weeks I just holed up in my room and got room service. They did the lock down where they close the library, computer rooms, and put up cellophane around all the food and the workers serve you, there is no more self serve. They stamped out the virus in 3 weeks and I was back out in circulation. Also during that time I was out on deck a lot so it was not like I locked myself away. Also if you just avoid huge gatherings like those captain cocktail parties where everyone is close by eachother, you have a good chance of escape. I guess what makes me just sort of go for it is that I came very near being left to die (seen in my above posts as I filled Blue in on my history), so all I do now is icing on the cake so to speak. Check out some cruises. Usually short ones don't lend themselves to Norovirus, but I got this weird broncial flu but it is also going around my home town. So who is to say?
