redface  I am a new colostomite by 3 weeks. I am looking for the best way or method to deoderize my pouch and room after emptying my pouch. The smell just hangs in the air and my wife is going crazy over the smell.  skull  I use to have gas prior to surgery but this so much stronger than before. Just looking for best solutions to take care the smell.  I have looked on the blog and haven't seen anything about this. What works for you. Thanks for the advice.

The M9 drops in the pouch help a lot, and some people on this site have recommended hydrogen peroxide (3%, a capful), which I've just started experimenting with (it's very cheap, from the drug store; you get the M9 from the same place you get your pouches).

I also think my output smelled a lot more the first few weeks; it's not quite as bad now, even when I don't use the drops, although it does depend on what I eat.

Yes, the smell gets better...three weeks is still early.

You could try the M-9 drops or even the chewable deodorizer (can't think of the name right now).

You could spray Lysol or something like that directly into the toilet BEFORE you empty and that will help with the odor, too.

Thank you for your responses. I tried a listine cool mint today in my bag it did soften the smell. The true test will be my wife and if she can smell it. Glad to know it should get better with time.

It does get better as your bowel settles down and then it depends on what you eat. I have the bag deodorant that you spray in or put droplets in for when I'm at work or out and about. At home I don't worry and my husband has never complained. Mind you he wouldn't have leg to stand on after he has been drinking real ale and eating garlic bread even the dogs won't stay in the bedroom due to his fragrant explosions. Suffice to say he normally gets booted into the spare room so the dogs and I can breathe again!

Obviously you stunk up the bathroom since you were a little baby, did you worry about it then or up until you obtained your ostomy? I have been an ostomate for 4 years and continue to stink up the bathroom. The way I look at is, My crap stunk before, it stinks today and will stink until the day I die. I spent alot of money on bag "lube" and started using a "splash" of hydrogen peroxide, and then it occured to me that my wife and boys stink up the bathroom and so does everyone else. give them the courtesy spray of lysol on the walk out and hold your head proud that you can stink up the bathroom in a few seconds, and will not have to sit down in a public restroom (unless you want to) to drain your appliance. Yes, it will get better with time. I use the hydrogen peroxide and it works GREAT! You can't smell anything.

Peroxide works for me. Just a capful in your bag every time you empty works great. I have not found that the smell has gotten better over time or maybe it is just what I eat. I have noticed that it seems when I get up in the morning it is worse. But my family will attest to the peroxide working. And it is Very Very Cheap.
