Swelling

I had an ileostomy two months ago. The area around the stoma has been swelling and tonight it is about half of the size of a softball. Not painful just big. Should I been concerned??? Thank you

i don't think it's normal, i never had any swelling around the stoma. i'm not sure what it could be. does the area hurt? i'm thinking maybe it's a hernia..? are you going to see your surgeon any time soon? if there's a stoma nurse you're seeing, let her take a look at this, see what she thinks. let us know.

I second Hodaya -- check in w/your surgeon or nurse. Doesn't sound normal to me.

I hope you have already called your doc...please have it looked at to be on the safe side.

Have you been coughing a lot? Mine once swelled to twice it's size after a bout of bronchitis (I think cos I strained my tummy muscles from coughing so much). After a few days it went back to it's normal size though. I just cut the hole in my wafer larger to accommodate it in the meantime.
