Hello all,
Nearly three months after collectomy, and waiting for operation number two in the winter, I was having some strange sensations around my stoma last week and on thursday evening took myself to the first aid in the surgery where I'd had the collectomy. The attending doctor was great and after examining me, said I have a tiny hernia and my stool is way to thick. The most important thing, he said, is that I have to keep the stool as fluid as possible, drink more water, and he recommended I take lactuose twice a day. I've been taking it and it makes the stool totally liquid, which makes life easier in the sense that emptying is very quick business now.
That I'm getting such a thick consistency without lactuose will probably be an advantage for life with the j-pouch in a few months. But I'm worried about the hernia. He said it might get worse, or it might not get worse, before the next surgery, but there's nothing I can do for it but drink lots.
Any experience here?
