Well as of yesterday morning at 1130 am I have my permanent ileostomy!!!
She is named Opal and she is the daintiest stoma most of my nurses have ever seen lol. She's in all honesty no bigger than a quarter. I'm doing well. Had lots of nausea yesterday but I think it was mostly the anesthetic. Today I'm doing great took three walks one small and two big ones. Had clear fluids and tomorrow I might be allowed just liquids!
I watched her fluff earlier lol it was teh weirdest feeling. I also emptied the bag myself tonight and discovered a good way to clip it and empty it without completely getting the tail full of poop! I have awesome nurses and the best surgeon. SHe loved my teddy bear that I performed an ileostomy on, she's been showing him to people :P
I'm in really good spirits and am hoping the rest of my hospital stay is as good as today!

Congratulations! Sounds like you're doing great. Wow, a "dainty" organ the pushes out poop, that's something. I hope things continue to go smoothly.
Remember, as soon as you're able, walk, walk, walk (and chew, chew, chew)

I am so glad to hear that your surgery went so well and that you are happy with Opal. I remember when I saw my stoma doing its little dance for the first time. I thought it was pretty fascinating.

I had a good giggle over the noises and feelings when she squirts lol... they must think I'm a nut!
Today I was able to have some instant breakfast and cream of wheat and so far so good. I also washed on my own and went for a three lap walk alone. I'm really feeling much better than I expected! Especially emotionally I'm doing GREAT. Every time I walk I feel better. She is really small as I said she's about
7/8 of an inch in diameter. I've had lots of visitors and people keep bringing me books and puzzles and things. So all; in all a very pleasant hospital stay for me so far. My first night was a little rough since I was so nauseated from the anesthetic but now I'm feeling pretty good.

I know they told me that this morning it will most likely be around 3/4 inch when done healing up! I'm quite surprised I was expecting it to be a lot bigger. To be honest I expected the whole thing to be more stressful and unpleasant than it has been. I just had soup and ice cream for lunch and working on a bit of milk and so far so good... Going to learn to empty my bag in a bit as well! Lots to learn and do while I'm in here.

I guess my husband has a "dainty" one too as that is his size also.

I would say having a good attitude is definitely half the battle. It;s making it much more bearable just to be in the hospital this time around. I'm very pleased with little Opal, she's doing smashing. I still find it tickles when she kinda bubbles out some air and I think the novelty may never wear off lol
