Hey everybody. Gotta clothing question. I am going to a class get together with some old friend Friday and am needing something to smooth out my pudgy belly. I bought a spanx body smoother but I was wondering how it would work with my ileostomy. Does anyone else use Spanx or girdles? How do they affect the stoma and output?
thanks

unless its like cant breathe or sit down crazy tight it will be fine!
you just need to empty more and make sure you stay on top of emptying. I would take some immodium if i were you, and if you have them, use the gel tabs.
i havent worn spanx, just cause i dont have any, but i've worn tight panty hose and a girdle type thing, and had no problems. when i wear a skirt i wear a belly bad also, and sometimes i wear a pair of tight undies over my regular undies. the reason i wear two pair is because i don't like the tight pair they ride up on their own :D
anyway, have fun!

It doesn't stop your stoma from working...and it will help smooth things out. Just empty a little more like summerstorm said and have a great time!!

The spanx worked really well. No complications with the bag or wafer at all. They actually feel really good in my opinion. Not too tight. I had a great time with old friends.

I had my ileostomy in April and since discovering the wonder of spanx in May I rarely venture out without them. I feel 1000x more confident with them on. Aside from smoothing everything out I find it actually helps support the weight of the bag so it doesn't pull as much AND as an added bonus it gives you an extra layer in case of a leak. I did buy them a couple of sizes bigger so its not quite as restricting.

Glad the spanx worked out for you! it's a lovely feeling having a smooth line and feeling more supported.
I've tried the comfizz pants which are supposed to support, smooth and even make the pouch work better - but all I find is that I end up with a leak. It's almost like they're so tight they push the output under the wafer! it's very annoying as I love the feel and look of them. I'm ok with leggings so long as they're not too tight.
Do you think this will improve in time or am I forever destined not to wear really tight stuff ??? it's frustrating. My stoma is quite spouty (is that word?) so dont' know if that makes any difference?

Hmm I've never tried the comfizz but that is super annoying! I actually found leggings and nylons more frustrating as the waistband tended to cut across the pouch dividing it in two and it would make the bag puff out more. I also found myself having to readjust more frequently. With the spanx I have the elastic up to just below my ribcage and the fabric part isnt so tight it forces anything anywhere.
Hope that helps!

Usually I can wear anything. But several months ago, purchased some jean like leggings. It too was very restrictive and the elastic was conforming, went to see a play downtown and like Sarah, mine actually pulled out the bag on the 2 piece. I was horrified! So, I stayed away from restrictive things. But 2 weeks ago, had my 20 year High School Reunion. Well...had to look my very best right? Purchased a one shoulder mini dress, but I needed Spanx. I could see the ring on the 2 piece, probably others couldn't but I was self-conscious. I couldn't believe how good it felt, didn't feel too tight. The night was a success!!!!!
