Well, I guess I will tell you about my situaton frist. In 05 I had bladder cancer. Had an Indiana Pouch put in which is also called a neo bladder. I have had several surgies due to Kidney stones. So now that we can not go in there any more we are going to have to go to what I call the VW only because I have the best thing man ever created.. But any way. I said I would die before I would have this done. But I have changed my outlook on life now. So now I am scared to death with this next surgery.. I know that there is alot of different stomas.. I think I have decided to go with the 2 piece because I am so active.. Help

Hello and welcome!

The majority of us on here have ileostomies or colostomies, not urostomies, but we are definitely here to help!

Everyone is scared before surgery but 95% of us are so very happy to have had the surgery so we can get on with our lives!! Having an ostomy doesn't mean giving anything up...it allows you to live your life!

I go to a support group in my area and there are a few people with urostomies. It's really not the end of your life, I promise!

As for what pouches to get, just try different things until you find what works for you...everyone is different, so it's hard for us to tell you what would be best. We can answer any questions you may have though!!

Again, welcome, and seriously, it's a major surgery, but we all came out on the other side and you will too :) There are better days ahead!

Thank You so much. The Dr's did not think that I would even be hear in 6 years. My cancer was soooo bad there really was not much hope. But after 6 months of Chemo and lots of really bad days. My Friends and Family were just wonderful. If it was not been for them I do not think that I would be here. I had such a bad life that I did not even care if I lived or died. I did not want to do any surgeries or chemo. I was homeless and by that I mean I had not place of my own. Stayed with friends and family. I did not want to wear my welcome out so I would only stay about 3 months and move on.. But I am.. So now I am just trying to get this done and get on with my life.....

Welcome! I also go to a support group where there are people with urostomies. If there's a support group near you, it might be good to go. A good stoma nurse can help a lot with the pouches. From the support group, it sounds like urostomies are a bit trickier to deal with than ileostomies (which I have), but you can work it out.

I'm so glad your friends and family were there for you, and I hope for better times ahead. Hang in.

Once you have your ostomy and have no more cancer, you'll hopefully be well enough to get a job and get back on your feet. I was in a place similar to you before my surgery and now my life is completely different.
