Anyone had surgery for butt wound?

It's been almost six months since my surgery, and my butt wound is still not healed. It's only 3 cm, and it doesn't hurt, but it's just not healing.

I've been on a wound vac for 2 weeks now, and it looked at first like it was helping, but no progress in the last week, and it's still 3 cm. My surgeon thought it'd be all healed in 2 weeks, sigh..... not like I got my hopes up too much.

So now we're trying intermittent therapy on the vac (10 minutes on, 1 off), in the hopes that it will shock the wound into healing. Both my surgeon and nurse are on vacation next week, so I go in on Monday the 22nd, and they will evaluate whether to continue the wound vac or not.

I'm just thinking ahead, wondering if anyone here has had plastic reconstructive surgery for the butt wound, and if so, what it was like and how it went. That's the next step if the vac doesn't work. The part that concerns me is that I think I have to stay in bed for a week or two afterward, in the hospital, no walking or sitting at all. It's a little hard to imagine when I'm feeling pretty good going back to catheters, etc.... I'm also not sure how much pain there is, how much time on an IV etc....

I hope I don't need the surgery, but appreciate any info you might have....

That's great that the microcyn seems to be working and your infection is gone. I hope it keeps getting better, you've been through a lot. Does it still hurt a lot?

I will definitely bring up the microcyn when I see my surgeon. More surgery feels like such a last resort....

I asked my nurse how people do when they have the surgery, and she said in kind of a not enthusiastic tone that they do OK.....

They did do a wound culture on Friday -- first one ever..... kind of made me wonder why it hadn't been done earlier.... my nurse said she'd asked and the surgeon always said not necessary (it has always looked very clean).
