My stoma is longer now all of a sudden after 2 months??  My hole used to be in the middle now it's drooping down.  did I break it?  my stomach hurts everytime I move now.

I don't think you broke it they change shape over time. They can shrink and grow for the first 6 months.
It depends on what kind of hurt you have, you may want to call the dr and ask if its a new pain.

I am sorry to hear that your stoma is growing & your stomach pain. Have you called your Surgeon's Office yet? How long has this been going on? Is your's temporary?

I had my ileostomy in May, and my stoma is perfectly round & it has gotten smaller the last past couple weeks. I was using the 1 1/8th measuring circle & now 1"...My next appt. is in September & we will then discuss making it permanent. I definitely want it permanent & my large intestines + rectum removed. I just don't want my stoma to change cuz its perfect right now.

I really hope your pain goes away & you don't have any complications. Pleez call your Doctor and keep us posted on your outcome. You will be in my thoughts & I truly hope it is all fine.

My stoma is suddenly wider and longer and more painful after four months. I'll get an opinion for the surgeon next week. The pain has increased but I thought it was because I am targeting abdominal muscle groups with workouts in bed. I wonder if the backbends aren't pushing the stoma out a bit. I alternate beteen back flexes/arches and five types of gentle crunches. The program is from Lance Armstrong's Livestrong website. I found a lot of good information on how to reclaim and rebuild our bodies after postabdominal surgery.
I treat the pain with heated bucky bags. Bubky bags are filled with buckwheat hulls and have a special outer fabric that retains heat for many hours. I use lavender sachets in the bags for a relaxing smell. Microwave no more than 2 minutes. They are better than oxycdone!
Pain is keeping me in bed for a couple of days per week but I am getting stronger!

how long is longer? could be a prolapse, esp if you say your stomach hurts. call your surgeon.

I was worried when my stoma started getting considerably longer and wider about 2 months after surgery. It has stopped now and turned out to simply just be 'the norm' after surgery. I do think you need to get your pain looked into as soon as you can...doesn't sound too fun :(

I agree with Hodaya...it sounds like it could be prolapsed. Let your surgeon know.

well I have my next pre op tomorrow so I'll ask my surgeon then. I guess if there is a problem, they can fix it when I go in for step 2 on 9/7..

i had prolapsing issues after my original colostomy. after about 5 weeks it began to come out and a year later it would prolapse out a total of 12 inches. The only reason it didn't go further is because it would hit the bottom of the bag and stop.

I then had corrective surgery at the cleveland clinic and dr stocci fixed it but after a few months it started again. as of today it prolapses about 3-4 inches. For the most part its not that big of an issue in my day to day life. But when it comes time to change the pouch its a major problem.

As far as the pain, I never experienced pain but i did have what felt like a bad stomach ache when it would prolapse all the way out. the only way to make it better was to either lay down or sit in some kind of reclined position. And when it prolapsed that bad i couldn't do much but sit or lay down to make the discomfort go away.

The surgeon will probably tell you that a little prolasping is normal and not a concern but if it continues then you'll want to do something about it.

Could be prolapse, or the pain could maybe be a hernia? I'm glad they are seeing you so soon so that you'll have an answer. The orientation of the opening of my stoma changed after a couple of months, too. It was centered, but now is more toward the top. That part seems normal to me. :-)

Well, who knows! My surgeon didn't seem too worried about it. It is bleeding all the way around the base! My wafer isn't too tight either that I can tell! No one seemed to care since I'm getting a loop in a few weeks UGH!
