 Hi   My daughter had her surgery at the age of 15.  She just turned 16.  She had a hard time dealing with the bag.  Only had it for two months.  She recovered very quickly from both surgeries.  After her first surgery, seven and a half hours.  That night after waking up she cried and said she was so happy.  I asked why and she said she was so happy her stomach didn't hurt anymore.  So she could tell the difference the same night.  I also was like you and tried to avoid surgery.  I can honestly say that was the best decision for her.  She is out now being a normal teen again.  Hang in there, it does get better . 

I had my surgery last June with the final surgery last October. I can tell you the same thing- Even though I had the post surgery pain, I could tell right away that I felt "better". I know, that sounds strange but I guess when your colon is so badly deseased, it feels good to get rid of it!

I can't imagine having to see one of my kids having to go through this. As a parent, that has got to be so heart wrenching. But on a happy note, he will be on his way to being healthy again and he will be able to eat all his favorite foods again! (I can now!) Best of luck!
