Well I thought I'd give a quick update since today was the day of my exams. I really do get a kick out of going under, just crazy to see how easy the body can be put to sleep and next thing you know it's all done!
Anyways, I had a combined Colonoscopy and Endoscopy done. While I won't know the biopsy results until my doctor's appointment next Tuesday, I do have some preliminary results on a printout with pictures. I requested this since I wanted to get as much info as I could before hand.
Endoscopy wise, it sounds like I have some Erythema of the mucosa in my esophagus and stomach (looking this up it sounds like another term for irritation). They said this is indicative of esophagitis and gastritis.
Colonoscopy wise, it says mucosa was normal in the right colon, with mild erythema in the left colon and abnormal mucosa noted in the rectum. And they found external hems. Great.
Anyways, summary at the end says:
- Erythema in the antrum and stomach body compatible with gastritis . (Biopsy).
- Erosions and Erythema in the gastroesophageal junction compatible with esophagitis (Biopsy.).
- External hemorrhoids.
- Mild erythema in the left colon . (Biopsy).
- Abnormal mucosa in the rectum compatible with colitis. (Biopsy).
So not quite sure what to make of it all yet. When I was awake I asked the nurses if they found any symptoms of crohns since I was telling them before hand that that was what I was most worried about, and after the procedure they said none was found.
I guess I'll know more when the biopsy results come back. I'm wondering how the gastritis and esophagitis is contributing to some of my symptoms. Didn't really expect that.
