B'derech, so good to hear from you! and your post really touchted my heart! thank you so much! i'm so happy you were able to make your dream come true. that is amazing! and i'm so impressed with how persistent you were to get what you wanted! i also have lots of doubts i can succeed in school now. actually i have very little faith i can. but i will give it a try. i'm meeting with the social worker and the employment advisor tomorrwo and we will be discussing my options also according to the professional diagnostics test they had me do about a month ago (more than 9 hours test..) the advisor and social worker will tell me their opinions according to the test too. i'm very nervous about hearing the results and their conclusions.. i will tell them my prefferences and will see what they say.

i'm now VERY stressed financially and don't have any money to do anything with studying on my own. i have a great chance now with social security willing to help me and i don't want to miss that chance in no way. this is my great opportunity and i am very appreciative of being given this. and i cannot wait to start with something. even if it's not exactly what i dream of, i'd be thankful to make it through dental assistant or optics studying. if i make it, maybe it will boost my self confidence about studying somethig bigger.

I just read this, I missed it yesterday because I didn't see thatt here is a second page of posts, and it's alreay the day of results for you.

After nine hours of tests (!), your talents andd strongest potenials should be pretty clear, at least in the way that these tests can measure (they can't measure what a good friend you can be or what is loveable about you).

Sending you all kinds of great thoguhts and wishes for this important day. You are the one who decided to make changes in your life and you're on the way!

hey guys..... thank you all so much :):):)

the meeting went really great! the more time got close to the meeting, the more conviced i was that a dental assintant is the thing for me. cuz according to what i searched, compared to optics, dental assistant studies include a lot more clinical contents, like: anatomy, pathology, chemistry, x rays, dental materials, microbiology, oral rehabilitation, dental caries and more. optics doesn't contain that many clinical subjects and more like fixing ppl with glasses by a dr's perspcrition, fixing glasses - more like a technician's work. what intrigues me most is the clinical subjects. so i was pretty determined on dental assistant when i got there.

we first talked about the tests results. they said they are very impressed with my tests results. i was SO curius to see the report my self, but they don't let you :( but it's kinda doesn't make sense, cuz it's MY test, right?

anyways, the advisor was like reading my mind, cuz before i even opened my mouth for what i wanted, she said she thought about few options for me, and just said dental assistant and i said, yeah bingo lollll.

so anyways, i'm supposed to start calling the institutes that teach this course, register, then i give the social worker the bill. they pay for school, books, travelling expenses.

sooo that's it. i hope i don't screw this up, cuz if i don't make it, they won't pay for me second time :/

Hodaya! This is so exciting! You are probably going to be fantastic in any area of health care, because you have a very special experience and insight as a patient yourself, and so dental patients will really appreciate your manner with them, which I am guessing is going to be warm, caring and sensitive. And that's in the medical area of dentistry that is notorious in any country for being masochistic! Whatever dentist you work for, you are going to be their greatest asset because the patients will want to come back (and nobody wants to go to the dentist)!

But this is probably the best time you've had in years, this feeling that you can start a new life! You can do the studies too, don't feel afraid of that. It's the chance to see how much you really can achieve, step by step.

That's awesome! And please, please try not to put too much energy into worrying about not being able to do it. You were a kid when you got bad grades before, right? I teach and it's pretty clear to me that motivated, mature students who want to be there and work hard succeed. Students who are older than traditional college students pretty much always do well in my classes, even if they are very rusty and their knowledge wasn't so strong in the first place..... they work, they persist, and they come for help when they need it. You will do fine.

B'Derech, blueglass.... thank you both so much for your support and encouragement! i really hope so. lol B'Derech, hope i'll be the one to ease the masochism on the poor patients :):) cuz i know, i'm also terrified when i go to the dentist...... i once bit a dentist so hard cuz i was SOOOO scared of the shot!!!! he was pretty upset with me, but i really didn't mean to....... lol.

i'm working on my self confidence. i'm determined to do it and will do my best to succeed. with GOD's will!! xoxoxoxoxo

Made a mistake, I meant to write, that dentists are notorious sadists all over the world but I think everyone knew what I meant.
Buegrass is right about studying later on as an adult. I was a college drop.out when I went to grad school and not entirely sure I could cut it. I ended up just enjoying my studies so much that I stopped worrying and feeling insecure. The main thing is just to get into it.
Hodaya when do you start?
I took off two extra days, Thursday and Friday, because of RH and because Monday is also a holiday here, so I'm free for five days. I wish I would be in Israel but it's not possible. Still, I'm due for a visit pretty soon. I just want to see these places where I spent a couple of years!

no no it's not a mistake, and it's ok lol. all taken in good spirit ;) i hope i get into it like you. i called 3 colleges (those which are within reasonable distance from where i live), one in Tel Aviv, one Ramat Gan and one Keffar Sabba. Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan got back to me. Keffar Sabba not yet. i went for an interview today in Ramat Gan + did the acceptance test and they will get back to me next year (after RH lol ;). they start on Oct 23.

sunday i'm going for another interview at Tel Aviv (which i preffer studdying there - geographic considerations only, since both colleges are considered to be good same way) and will see. the course in Ramat Gan is 1.5 yrs + training period (not sure how long) in kupat holim Meuchedet.

wow 5 days is great! use them as best you can to have fun and relax! :) and if you ever come to israel, let me know so we can meet. i'd love to see you :)

Hodaya thank you for your lovely comments... and you are getting on so well looking at all these posts - i hope you get the new career you deserve soon.

 

Yes Sarah (Ironmum) had a nice and empathetic consultant -( her husband has private healthcare insurance )- and he didnt go on about all the negatives like mine did though he did say it might not work.  As you know she lives about 30 minutes away from me and she called me up recently and did suggest getting his opinion in a private consultation which i may do though i am faltering as to when and it will cost the earth and it might not go anywhere.  i cant afford private surgery and i am scared as to the way forward.  Well the Prof of the hospital in London i go to has 20 years of research into colonic inertia under his belt and is his speciality (but now he is traveling around the world); i have been to three others in london in the past which were useless, so i am a bit apprehensive of starting to go down that route again as so far, this is the only hospital that actually acknowledges and does surgery for colonic inertia. 

 

Yes i am glad i had my bowel removed as i do remember having to even strain out the mucus when i had the bag - its a pity i didnt put two and two togeher then and thought i might have a probelm but i guess i was tyring to put it to the back of my mind.
