Hello :) it's been a while since I've been here. I just popped in for a quick question
I had a colonoscopy today and found out I have a small case of pouchitis. This is the first time I've had it since having my reversal in 2009. My doctor prescribed flagyl which I've taken before to try and treat my ulcerative colitis. I also have a terrible migraine right now so as soon as I laid down about 10 mins ago..mind you I've had a migraine and been nauseated since I got home from the hospital today around 4..I laid down thinking it would help. I had to get up and go puke!! :( I NEVER puke. So I'm wondering if the flagyl is making me sick. I was on a liquid diet all day yesterday and I only had a turkey sammy and a few cookies. about half hour ago mom got me some oatmeal and I was so sick to my stomach I didnt want to eat it but figured maybe it'd help...and then I puked. Should I be concerned?

If I am remembering correctly is it recommended to take some pepto bismol when you take flagyl to ward off stomach upset and possible vomiting??? That popped into my recall when I read your post.

Hi! The last time I was prescribed an antibiotic the doctor told me to absolutely NOT lie down for at least an hour after taking the medicine. I think he said something about antibiotics being very upsetting to the stomach and increasing stomach acids. All I know is they definitely made my stomach upset, so you're not alone! Plus, if you had a migraine that can be enough to make you throw up as it is!

I used to call flagyl "flaggelate" because I felt so horrible on it. My doc prescribed tigan to help w/the nausea and that did help a lot. I haven't taken it since my colon was removed, though.

It actually significantly improved one of my flares once, that was unexpected as I was on it for something else (supposed to be more of a Crohn's thing if it helps.....)

Alibee, that's very interesting about lying down.... hard for me because I'm on bed rest, but I was on an antibiotic for 5 days after my recent surgery.... wasn't too bad, but had a few effects....

If you continue to feel unwell you can ask your doctor to give you Cipro in place of flagyl.

Flagyl is ONE NASTY MED. Anything else they can give you? Rosemary

Flagyl makes me nauseous too. As Sue said, Cipro also works for pouchitis, so maybe you could try that instead.
