I am just wondering if anyone had/has crushes on their doctor gi or surgeon

I have a gi who I don't exactly have a crush on but I get along with, the surgeon I definitely have a crush on, and the assistant surgeon who examined my stoma suspecting a parastomal hernia in the ER I definitely fell in love with. A friend told me he thinks it's normal to fall in love with your doctors. This is light and off-topic but definitely part of my ostomy experience!

I know what you mean about the older surgeon. These are the people who cut us open, heal us, have our lives in their hands. I also notice some patients feel the pressure to "behave" themselves and be good kids, not cry, and not show the doctors that collectomies are emotionallly and psychically one of the most traumatic experiences. (I know: these are not quite amputations or masectomies but I think emotionally it is of equal weight).
So in general, these feelings and relationships with doctors are at least complex.

When I was in rehab, there was a retired doctor subbing for the director for a couple of days. He was sophisticated, elegant and sensitive, (but about 78). If he were 30 years younger..... I had the feeling I could talk to him for hours and we did talk about a lot of things, and he did knock on my door later, wihtout any official reason, just to say hello, and I felt a bit sad that anything at all would have bene totally inappropirate.
The doctor in the ER was in my opinon gorgeous, and sexy in the way that he was so fascinated with the workings of the human body. And there is nothing sexier than a person who is passionate about what they do.
But it's like the main thing is with the surgeon, who I know from experience is an execellent surgeon and I trust him completely, and he is going to see me through fro the beginning to the end of this process, and he is the one actually doing the deed. Of course there is this feeling that I am completely dpeendent on him for my life and health, but this is so weird, and so complex, and at the same time I'm perfectly clear about our "relationship" beginning and ending with my surgery.
(He is actually quite cute according to my slightly twisted taste!)

I really didn't like my first gi doc, and I talked to someone who had lived w/ibd a lot longer than me through a patient matching program. She said, "You have to be in love w/your gi doc." I thought she was nuts, but she did help motivate me to switch docs.... and well, it's not a sexual thing w/me (not so into men), but I do just admire him so much, there is something there that's intense for me. He is the one I trusted enough to take his recommendation on surgery etc.... he is about my age, so I always ask him about his young son and he shows me videos and tells me what new words he's learned.

Now my surgeon on the other hand is a lot younger than me and just gorgeous .... she kind of seems like one of those doctors on tv that you say "that person couldn't possibly really be a doctor," but she is. Of course, my partner feels the same way about her..... we joke about how impressive she is in many ways.... but it's much more relaxed, not a pedestal like my gi doc....

My primary doc is also a young woman, and I feel like she admires me, which is nice. She hadn't met my partner, so finally I just invited her and her young son over for brunch (I was in the hospital when I made the invitation, then I immediately said, "was that inappropriate" and she said she'd love to). It took months until I was well enough, but it was fun, and she feels more like a friend....

It is or can be a very intimate connection w/these doctors. I'm lacking that with my plastic surgeon, and I feel like it makes the whole experience a lot more stressful, and the care worse too.....

When I was recovering there was a group of doctors/interns who would come by every day and talk to me...all of them were young men...and good looking. One of them was so handsome he looked like Elvis. I always get the cute doctors whenever I look terrible or have to talk about something like bowel issues.

On another note - I TOTALLY have a crush on my Primary care doc...he's sweet and handsome and an amazing doctor. I giggle like a little girl every time I see him!

Nothing worse than a cute doctor when you're being asked about your bowels! or worse having them inspected... ;-)

Agree with the whole having a crush on your surgeon thing.. probably some sort of 'they're saving me' thing! it's certainly a weird relationship.

Mine is the same age as me and actually lives just up the road! I often run past his house with an extra spring in my step ;-)

Oooo an accent! that works everytime, lol. One of the drs I went to a while back was from south africa, and he wasn't attractive at all! Short, fat, kind of bald, but I could have listened to him talk for hours, I loved when he explained things, lol

I went down such a bad road with surgeons (my defendant ones), the "crush" scene is totally not in my realm with any doctor. BUT the older one who saved my life was like a grandfather figure who stepped in to give me more time; sort of like in that old TV series Touched by An Angel.

Good for you for having these feelings, though, as that is a lovely feeling that can carry you far and no shame in it at all! A healthy thing.

I remember all those old TV series like Medical Center with Chad Everett (what a HUNK!) then there was Marcus Welby MD with the cute young associate James Brolin, MD another hunk. I think the media at least back then had a bit to do with seeing docs in that light.

Now I just view them as dangerous ONLY because of my misdiagnosis of sigmoidocele that wasn't, the unneeded removal of it, no follow up to complications, then almost dying and them not caring even enough to show up for their own depositions. BUT, my case not the norm, thank GOD!

So enjoy, nice off topic but light hearted. I remember the days....nice memories your post brought back to me. Though for me the media I think painted a picture of docs that really backfired on me. Rosemary
