I agree with run4pancakes. I'm for walking as first activity when you want to lose weight steady and carefully. Can't be mall walking! Has to be power walking. That means you can talk but not as much as usual.
Water stuff (swimming laps, Classes, deep water running) are great too for protecting knees amd joints until they can stand more pressure and impact. Weights great when you're ready for the push. Just watch the immune system because it gets challenged a lot in weights as you go heavier and heavier. Oh wait, that would be what I would do to myself- A type personality that I am.
I like belt to keep things from shifting when active. I still have to change appliance way more when I train hard and long in a day. I find running I like it to be taped to body so it doesn't wiggle around and feel like it's pulling. Sure seals are great for keeping water out but find they don't let wafers dry back to skin as well as without them. Guess it's individual.
Eating big part even though we like to wish it wasn't. Eat less, cut out processed foods, too much fats and sugars. We all need some yum on the taste buds just not as much as you did before.
Like Summerstorm said, Soft drinks and alcohol big calorie waster. I will stop here because I could go on all day.
Good luck on the fitness. New chance at life! Take it and go!!
