Gift for your surgeon?

Has anyone given their surgeon a gift? My mom thinks I should paint something for him (I used to go to art school). Or she wants to make him a glass bead. She talks about how they always used to give gifts to their doctors back in Soviet Russia. I don't know though, is that something that people do here and now?

     I didn't give my surgeon a gift but I did phone his office on the one year anniversary of my surgery.  I mentioned that I wanted to thank him, his assistant and the rest of his staff for giving me a new lease on life.  Apparently, he was grateful for that because his assistant phoned me a few months later and asked if I would be willing to speak to patients who were facing the same surgery as I had and give them some moral support.  So far, no one has called..lololol.  However, I am willing to do so.

i think it's a nice gesture. i bought my surgeon an amethyst crystal. he gave me my life back and i felt i had to do something to show my gratefullness.
