First vacation since surgery

We took a cruise for a week and got back last Sunday.  We had a wonderful time.  No mishaps or problems even though I was so over prepared with supplies for my husband...funny actually.

By the end of the week he was a bit tired as we walked and walked and walked while we shopped and shopped.

Overall it was what we needed and it's so nice to feel so normal and not be in the constant state of anxiety and frustration and debating if you want to venture out or not for fear a restroom isn't within a minute's notice.

Great weather, awesome ship and good sailing overall.

Life is good again and this was truly a Happy Thanksgiving today.

This post made me smile! Where did you cruise to? I would love to go on a cruise someday.

I am SO glad for you, it sounds like it was absolutely wonderful and you both totally deserve it :)

You said your cruise was a vacation. You live in The Villages is Fla. Vacation from what?? That's what my cousin said to my wife when she said that we were going on vacation to Fla. She said "You live on a lake. Vacation from what?".

We cruised to Royal Caribbean's private island of Labadee which is one of our favorites..been there 4 times I think. Great spot to relax, BBQ dinner prepared by the crew, swimming. Zip Lining and a small roller coaster that we did not try at that spot.

A new port Falmouth, Jamaica, Grand Cayman and Cozumel. We basically got off the ship for these 3 ports and walked around and shopped.

Weather was perfect and not too hot, breezy so we could do a lot of walking. SOOOOOOOOOOOO nice not looking for rest rooms every turn you made...lol.

As I said I way overpacked on the supplies but for peace of mind I didn't want that anxiety in the back of our minds if often changes were needed for one reason or another. Nice that is was just like home insofar as our routine.

Dan...yes you're right...we are blessed and fortunate to live here as it is like being on vacation every day.

Been here 9 years now so we are "living" here and it is our usual day to day life of going and coming and doing a lot of the usual stuff everyone does every day but just in very nice surroundings with alot of amenities.

Our first 4 years or so hubby was not sick so we truly maxed out on the lifestyle and very appreciative that we were able to retire earlier than originally planned. Had we waited he would have gotten sick right about the time of retirement and that would have been lousy as it would have definitely cramped our style so to speak.

We have 2 weeks of timeshare in Aruba that we go to every fall and rented it this year and cruised instead. The last 3-4 trips to Aruba before the surgery were really very tough with the UC and the unpredictability of it made travel days to and from sometimes nightmares and so frustrating no matter what kind of precautions he tried to take. We were at the point of selling it and just not going any more.

Very very lucky to have this opportunity once again to enjoy life and each other. Now we are looking forward to Aruba next year and have several sets of friends from up north who are also going to come which will make it even more fun. This truly was a year of thanks givings.

Living on a lake in northern MI we are familiar with having visitors (in the summer...not so much in the winter). My wife's cousin and his wife live in The Villages. They visit us every summer to get away from the FLA heat.

Planned to retire at 62 YO. At about 60 YO UC came back. Sent last 6 weeks of working on short term disability. I was horribly sick and anemic when we sold our house and moved from downstate to up north. Colectomy a year later. But here I am and happy to be here.
