 Hello, I am a new member of the forum having my two surgeries at the end of October and really don't have clue of what to expect during the healing process, occasional fever, headaches, rectal discharge, penal discharge and constant fatigue..

We just received approval for home nurse, but the first one has no experience with stoma patients, and we received the wrong supplies; not a good start. Have ultracet, and ibuprofen, 67 years old with medicare A & B

Seeking advice and occasional support as my wife and I work through these unexpected surgeries.

I hope to participate when I know what I am saying!

Welcome! I had a different surgery, so can't comment on some of your specifics, but some general things: Ask for a stoma nurse (sometimes called a WOC or ET nurse).... it makes a huge difference. There have been lots of posts here about clueless things that home nurses who aren't stoma nurses have told people.

Also, ask for samples of products to try. If you're getting your supplies from a big supply house, you can ask them, but you can also call the companies (convatec, coloplast, and hollister are the biggest ones in the US). The companies have phone lines staffed by nurses, who know a lot more than a random home health nurse, so if you have trouble seeing a stoma nurse for a bit, you might get help there.

It can take a long time to recover from the surgery, and it sounds like you had a double dose.... does get easier, but it's overwhelming at first.

hello !!! welcome this is THE BEST WEBSITE EVER !! i only now that the rectal mucus disharge is normal i have it and my surgery was oct. 10 so to me w/ everything else seems okay but i know the doc. at least mines said if i had feaver(s) to come in or call advil helps w/ the hedace (my case i had migrains)...the healing process is a lot it was for me but everyone is diffrent once again welcome to the forum

As blueglass said you can professional help from Convatec and Hollister. The phone numbers are convatec 800 422 8811 hollister 888 740 8999. I prefer convatec. The nurses know what they are talking about. They are not just order takers.
