Takedown in 1 week

Hi

I can't believe it has been 9 weeks since my daughter had her colon removed. She cannot wait to get rid of the bag, but at the same time she is SO scared for surgery. Her biggest fear is leaking and having to go to the bathroom a million times a day. She is still taking hydrocortisone, so there is a slight chance the surgeon could go in on surgery day and decide that things haven't healed the way she wants and then she won't do the surgery. Paige has always had a really hard time weaning off of steriods. It is super hard on her emotionally and she starts having these "meltdowns".... Long story, but it is absolutely horrible to watch her suffer. She is also scared about things going wrong...she has had a few friends that haven't had the greatest success with their takedowns (thank god we don't have the same surgeons!). To top things off, our house flooded the day before thanksgiving and we had to put one of our dogs down on November 10th. This has been the worst year of our lives...2012 HAS to be better!

You've had a rough rough time.. so sorry about your dog :-( that must have been hard on her.. and you all too.

It sounds like your daughter has got a great Mum in you and she'll get through this with your amazing support. She's a lucky girl.

Like all of these things, the thought of it is often much worse than the reality.. really hoping it all goes really really well for her. Give it time though, will likely take a while to settle after this surgery. Does she have a J pouch?? sounds like she had a colectomy and that the small bowel is connected to the rectum?? is that right or did I read it wrong?

anyway.. keep us posted and really hope the surgeon is happy with everything and can do the reversal. Hang in there.. you're doing great by the sounds of things.

Sorry you've had such a hard year, hope next year is much better.... a 13 yr old's meltdowns can be trying enough, for all concerned, w/out steroids (which among other things are essentially stress pills). Hope all goes well, and she can get off the drugs, retire the bag, and get back to kid stuff. Hang in.

Wishing you all the best! I understand how difficult it is, and can't imagine going through this at such a young age. You are a great mom, wish I had my mom and dad when I had my colectomy and thereafter, my emotional state of mind would have been better. Hang in there and much prayers!!! Christine
