Hello all,

I have been advised to go ahead and have my rectum removed. I have an ileostomy currently (had my colon removed in 05). I continue to pass mucus and blood through my rectum multiple times each day. We are trying the cortisteroid enema for 30 days, doing flex sigmoid on 1/12. If there is no improvement, the surgery will be scheduled.

Also, I have a peristomal hernia that will be repaued as well during this procedure.

Anyone been in a similar situation? I still work full-time (50+) our a week managing a staffing firm in Atlanta. What kind of re-coupe time should I expect? Pain? HR is requesting the FMLA paperwork, but I have 3+weeks of off time in the bank.

Crohns since 2001, colectomy in 05, reversal in 06, ileostomy back on 06, all Crohn's meds avail....taken them all!

I don't know if I can give you an accurate idea of recovery time. I had J pouch surgery so my rectum was removed when they took my colon out and created the j pouch. So I had a lot going on to re-coop from. But even with all that I had done at once, I was up and about in a couple of weeks....I would have needed a full month if I had to return to a job. All the best to you.

I had my colon, rectum and anus removed in 1999, seven years after my ileo was first done. I was back to work inside 5 weeks and had an open incision, wasn't allowed to drive for 4 weeks. Does depend on each person though.
