Hi guys! Hope you all are having a great start of the year. My husband has been doing really well. More energy than he's had in 6 years, happy and eating a ton! Hasn't tried veggies yet after ileostomy surgery 10/31/11...I think it's about
time, but after a partial obstruction few weeks after surgery he's scared to. I dont want to push him, so I'm sure he will in his own time.
Well, on Wednesday, he had lunch (pasta with creamy sauce) and then shortly after he started having sharp pain in his upper middle stomach area right under his rib cage. It's been coming and going in waves. No other symptoms, output is normal. What do you think it could be? He put in a call to the dr., but haven't heard back yet.
I'm stressing because finally he feels good and I'm scared...

It could be trapped gas pain, which can be very painful. I ate pasta for dinner last night and just woke up with a bag about
to explode with air, which never happens when I eat other food. If he's still in pain, have him take some Gas-X and lay on his left side to expel the gas. If that doesn't help, call the doctor again, and please keep us posted on how he's doing.

It could also be over-acidity and needs to be treated with something that reduced these acids in the stomache.

I get trapped gas all of the time and it's just as you describe. Sometimes it wakes me up at night. I find if I eat my meals more slowly without a lot going on around me that helps.

Does he still have his gall bladder? What you are describing sounds a lot like the attacks I got when I had gall stones. Fatty food can trigger the attacks because that stimulates the gall bladder into action which causes it to contract around the stones and spasm.
If the above suggestions about
gas don't help and the pains continue, he may want to get an ultrasound done to check for gallstones.

He thought it was the trapped gas too...but the gas x isn't helping much. Can trapped gas last for a few days?
Thanks for all your suggestions!!

My son had experienced the same thing the other day after eating a bag of chips. He was recently released from the hospital with Ileus and a partial blockage so that was the first thing we thought was happening again. I had him drink 3-4 cups of warm chicken broth and kept him on clear liquids for 24 hours. I also massaged him stomach on and off for a couple hours and it seemed to get the gas to move and his stoma started "farting" and then the output increased and the pain in his stomach subsided. Whatever was trapped seemed to moving and today he feels much better.
Hope you are feeling better!

Thanks for all your replies! He started feeling better yesterday and today's much better too! So, maybe it was the trapped gas...
Thank God!

Madigascar, that's excellent! Glad it was a short term thing....
Cece, love your tag line.... sounds like there's a good chance you look like a model, since that's what most of the dr's on tv look like (my CR surgeon is a dr who looks like she could play herself on tv....)

Madigascar, I hope your hubby is still doing well, and blueglass, people mistake me for Izzie on Grey's Anatomy, which is a very nice compliment, especially since she seems friendly and down-to-earth.

Okay, just for fun, I posted a picture of me next to Izzie on our photobucket.com page. The login is crohnsdisease, password 6mp3asa. Please post pics, too! We haven't done this in awhile, and it's so much fun to see everyone's smiling faces!

Wow cece!! Awesome picture!
My husbands pain is gone! We took our 17 month old daughter to the petting zoo, rode the little choo choo train, and strolled around the park for a couple hours....it was so nice. Life is great right now...so whenever he hurts a little, i freak out! :)

Thanks, Madi! So glad your hubby's pain is gone and you two were able to have a wonderful day with your daughter. I also get nervous every time I have some sort of abdominal pain. I think it's normal after everything we've been through.

Yes, I definitely see the resemblance, Cece. Good company.
