Hi Ryan,
Thanks. I was wondering how you were. I am over that cold just about. I spent valentine's day with a stoma nurse (not exactly what I had in mind but she was great and my need was there) getting new appliances as I have to go to convexity due to my weight gain. I had this huge burn right under where the poop comes out. with the weight gain the stoma does not stick out as far. One would think my ileo doc would have made it a bit longer to plan for weight gain, but my lysis of adhesions was so challenging I can't blame him for just doing the stoma the best way he did at the time. It was the perfect little spout never any issues. Well, good incentive for me to stay thin. The eakin seal did not do its job any more. So we have me in a Hollister convex and am using stomahesive paste. The nurse was great.
I don't like the tail closure on the Hollister as much as there is no security flap and once you get it unrolled you have to work hard to separate the two sides. Roni-Ro, Dan, Allblue, and I have this Burn thread going with some good sharing. Roni gets to have his take down in awhile too. I envy all you take down people. but it is as it is for me. I just gotta lose some weight and hopefully can get back into the appliance that worked so well for me for 3+ years. Auuugh!
I have not heard back from the Colorectal surgeon at UPenn that I wrote to after Dr. Raper referred me to them. I know I cannot be taken down but I thought I'd give it a shot. NOthing to lose except the price of the stamp.
I gotta get this burn cleared up and get used to whatever appliance and paste or whatever does work for me now and get confident with it as my trip to Russia is in April. YIKES! I'm glad I still have experimenting time.
My cat is doing much better, thank god. I am now giving her all the meds. She has made remarkable progress in the past two weeks.
Good for you. I would love to feel normal again, but that I doubt will ever be so I just gotta do what I can to approximate it. I did log onto this other website I think it is Great Comebacks? There was a permanent ileo post that hit the nail on the head for me anyway. It said the person just does simply not have the energy or the stamina as they did all in tact. Makes sense as our electrolytes are bound to get off a bit even with the best hydration. Plus Vit K is MADE by the colon, and in green leafy veggies that I can't eat. I know some eat salad and whatever they want but I can't so I get my K in crushed pill form in yogurt. YUCK! But whatever, I'm still lucky to be alive, so going forth however I gotta do it.
That is cool the gun permit, yeah that may rattle the TSA. Show that as your ID and maybe they won't search your stuff or maybe it would spur them on to do so ???? Am going walking in Look Park. Is nice today as it is 47 degrees up from 13 degrees and no wind chill today.
Will let you know if/when I hear from Penn. I have no expectations and I form adhesions so easily so highly doubt I would ever attempt any other surgery except emergency, but who knows; will be interesting to see what they say if I hear back.
Give a call before california. I can't wait for disease season to be over so I can start socializing again. I did tutor a friend's daughter yesterday and it did feel good to get back in teacher mode. No wonder I liked it so much. Thanks for the update. Rosemary and Sweetpea (my cat) from one cat lover to another!
