Hi Christine,

I was browsing these posts and just can't find one you made in reference to a Hollister pouch that either blew out on you, leaked or fell off. I tried to find it and couldn't. Please let me know.

I am getting into the New Image Lock 'n Roll Drainable Pouch New Image Flextend Convex Skin Barrier Flange. Did either of these do that to you?

Is that a 2 piece? The only 2 piece I have worn was what I came out of the OR with originally. What are the pros/cons as opposed to a 1 piece or is it just personal preference? My WOCN manipulated the new pouches I ordered so I am wearing a Cymed Platinum One-piece Drainable Pouch Pre-cut MicroSkin® Adhesive Barrier and 6mm Thick MicroDerm™ Plus Washer 7/8" Stoma opening, 9" L, Medium, Opaque, Odor-proof Film, Comfort Backing, Latex-free. Apparently I don't know how to read b/c I thought it had the lock n roll closure but it doesn't - I have to use a clip, which I am not a fan of but I guess you have to give something up if you like everything else. Another case of taking different parts of different pouches and putting them together to make the ultimate pouch!

Sidenote, what does "floating flange" mean? I am going to a support group meeting on Sunday and I imagine I'll have LOTS of questions afterwards b/c I'm sure lots of things will go right over my head.

Oh that clip thing is nasty. I tried one of those and could not deal with it. I have to have the roll up velcro. BUT as you said, if you like all the other features, then.....give and take I guess.

The floating flange is on the Hollister I described above. It is sort of like the tupper ware ring on the flange kind of floats on this mini cushion of extension of the flange then when you put the bag on you do not have to press it onto you. You can just press it onto the floating flange. Like you can get all your fingers under the flange and press the bag onto it without having to apply pressure to your body to get the bag to stay on the flange. Kind of hard to describe. Maybe if you google floating flange a picture might come up?

We all need to design the perfect pouch with best features of each :-) Rosemary

Allblue, Yes the above Hollister is a 2 piece bag and flange are separate. Rosemary

     Rosemary, it was the one piece Hollister that blew out at the seams. UGH rolleyes !  Not just once but twice!  Since using the one piece Coloplast Sensura, I have never had a problem.

I've been using Hollister since I had my surgery 2 years ago, 2 piece, and have never had a problem. Just try them. It's not likely to happen to more people.

Rosemary--I also have used the very same Hollister 2-pc that you mentioned and it worked very well for me allowing 7+ days wear, with no issues.   I did switch to Convatec because I like the "moldable" wafer  :-)

I use the hollister lock and roll, for now. They changed the way it secures at the bottom, the velcro part, and the new ones are horrible! I tried 3 and on all 3 the bottom of the bag ripped right off! Luckily I had about 9 months worth of the pre "improved" pouch to wear. I do really like the floaty thing, and get 7 or 8 days out of them.

Summer I also hate the way they lock and roll. How were the pre-improved ones different regarding that?

My WOCN helped me find that peek a boo pouch I was talking about in another post so I ordered it and it is CYMED and it has the lock n roll. The only con of it (for me) is that is it 11 inches long which just takes up my whole dang body - now if they would make it in the 9 inch it would be PERFECT. I really really love the microskin barrier - it is just so nice to my skin after I take it off. I'm anxious to see what everything looks like tomorrow when I have to remove the pouch so that my husband can pack the abcess fresh - he gets all the fun jobs huh LOL?!

allblue, what is the peek a boo thing? So you can take a glance at the stoma off and on and other wise the bag is opaque?

What company makes the Cymed bag: Hollister, coloplast, convatec?

Rosemary they didn't have the piece that comes down off the bag, it just rolled up from the bottom, three times and velcroed closed.

Oh, I see Summer. So actually the piece that comes down from the bag is their version of a security flap. Very hard to undo but I see what they were trying to accomplish.

ive had Hollister flexwear pouches that are leaking between the plastic pouch and cloth, and also between the barrier and plastic where the plastic is stuck to the barrier- it happened with 2 pouches in one box, three days apart- now I'm paranoid about the pouches leaking where they aren't supposed to be leaking- and lately the flexwear barrier is not lasting more than one day (my ileostomy changes sizes swells, and shrinks, so I have to cut the barrier about an 1/8 inch larger than the stoma, otherwise the swelling lifts up the edges whenre it comes against the ostomy) I've been wearing these pouches for several years now, and have never had it leak like that box did- and haven't had a leak since- but the barrier is breaking down a lot quicker these days- used to be able to get two days, now I can only get 1 day, and even that is pushing it-

Tom, thanks for pointing out the lapse of time. I missed that.

Still, if others are using the Hollister lock'n'roll, could you confirm that the current model has you fold three times, then fold down a flap attached to the body of the bag to seal the rolled up drainage tube (?not really a tube, don't know what to call it).

I am using bag 18282, just started the third box. the first and third boxes had the extra step mentioned above, the second did not have the separate flap, the velcro strip was attached to the bag itself. I had quite a few problems with those bags, found it hard to seal the velcro -- it lost its grip a few times, luckily I caught it before it completely unrolled.

I interpret the above to mean that my second bag was probably 3 year old stock, and I should be OK. If not, I may start experimenting with other products.
