ANY OTHER ILEOSTOMATES FEEL A BIT NAUSEOUS BUT NOT SICK?

I usually feel fine every day. I have my moments of nauseousness, usually if I ate too much & that time of the month. I try to keep the same regime, same food and exercise schedule. But sometimes I eat more than usual, and god help me if it's chocolate. Since vday with my kids extra chocolate kisses & hearts...i've gained 6 pounds just this week alone and I'm really not myself, even insomnia. But I've always had this problem, I binge on junk food, gain several pounds, have pains and problems, stop, and then the next week I'm back to my previous self. Winters especially make me groggy. We need more vitamin D in winter and we women need our B's.

Occasionally I feel a spurt of nausea but it usually passes within seconds and I'm back to normal. :) It also happens more often when I eat a really large breakfast, I think it just needs a little work trying to get it through.

I had been feeling a little bit of nausea from time to time, but it has gotten a lot better since my nutrition levels have improved. Rosemary, I remember you saying that you have trouble with thick foods, etc. Have you tried or thought of juicing?? When you juice there is absolutely no pulp and you get all of the vitamins and nutrients present in the veggies and fruits you are juicing. I have been doing this and I feel so much better overall. It may be worth a try for you. Some people swear by it as their sole source of nutrition. I don't know if I'd go that far, but it has been a great supplement to my diet.

I've been juicing for several years now. LOVE IT...it's my breakfast. The machine's are great, the taste is amazing and I throw everything in there. Don't have to cut, throw in whole or halves. Spinach, the lighter peppers as they have more vitamin c, celery gives a spicy kick, tomatoes are sweet, an apple, a pear...and has been great for my kids. Clean up is another story, many large pieces. And the pulp I reuse for the day in making hamburgers or chicken patties. Unfortunately all the fiber and nutrients didn't help my diverticulosis, as I didn't have constipation due to fiber but dysmotility...so juicing never helped. If you need suggestions as to the machines or recipes....let me know!!!

Yes Rosemary, I have felt the feeling you describe. I can eat anything and it goes through fine, but sometimes after eating I feel a little nauseated. It is almost like the feeling I used to get at Thanksgiving after I had eaten a huge meal, yet now I can get it after eating something as small as a sandwich. It doesn't happen all the time which makes it perplexing. I recall asking my surgeon about it last year and he said he had heard other ostomates describe similar things, but had no explanation. It is a small annoyance, but I feel very healthy with no other issues, so I don't worry about it. It passes fairly quickly.

I get these bouts of nausea in the morning after I eat breakfast. Usually, it doesn't matter what I eat, however I have noticed that it lasts longer when I eat eggs =/. I get the urge to vomit, but nothing ever comes out. A few times, I have felt the need to vomit, but nothing happens, although my stool smells like vomit. I find it to be really strange. Then again, everything about having an ostomy is strange lol.

     I usually do not have any nausea, but last night I did and the only reason I could come up with was that I drank a glass of cranberry wine.  For dinner we ate cheese ravioli.  I usually can eat just about anything.  I took a swig of pepto bismal and that sort of settled things.

     Was wondering if anyone has seen their gastro doctor since surgery.  I have not.  He wanted me to come in a month post op and I had an appointment scheduled for July 2010, but, he was so obnoxious about my decision to have surgery, I thought...screw it (forgive my French).  I asked my surgeon if it were necessary to see my GI doctor and he said not unless I was having upper gi problems.  So, I cancelled my appointment and haven't seen him since.  Went to him for twelve years and he never even asked how my surgery went when the resident called him to find out about my usual prednisone taper.  The resident was shocked when I told him that GI doctor took care of me for twelve years!!!  Acted more like a stranger .

Christine, wow that GI sounds like a real jerk. It is hard to believe that some of these people are in medicine!

I had tuna today from D'Angleo's and it always comes through as a full bag of yellow clear liquid (bile?) and the tuna tiny pieces floating in it.

Do you think the mayonnaise is too much for me? I had the tuna on a pita bread with provolone cheese. I thought this would make a mush output but it was this big bag of yellow. YUCK! Now it is turning normal (I think).

I put in a request for some blood work to my PCP for liver and gall bladder function tests, pancreatic enzymes, etc just to see if there is some other digestive issue going on. No reply. So I tried again and NO reply. So I put in a request at my naturopathic docs. They usually test whatever you want. I would not want blood work if there were not all these issues with digestion, i figure lets find out and rule out possibilities.

Found out my PCP's conglomerate all get charged when they order tests, so less profit from them. So there you have it; it's all about money. At least it is where I am from. Other parts of the state and the country are not all that way, but really now! Jeeze! Rosemary
