OT - Where are you from and where did you have your surgery?

Just curious how spread out we all are and where we had our surgery done.  Did you go to a teaching hospital, etc?   

I live on the border of PA and NJ and had my surgery at Morristown Medical Center.  It's currently ranked #1 in the state and is a teaching hospital, but not even close to the caliber of Mt. Sinai or Cleveland Clinic.  Anything short of those two hospitals and I wasn't getting a j-pouch.     

By the way, I changed my name from colitis-sux, LOL.  I think this name is more fitting.

I live in central Ohio and my surgery was performed at Riverside in Columbus by a colo-rectal surgeon.  He was awesome.

I live in Southwest Florida and had my surgery here, too. We have a lot of older retirees down here, so there is a hospital on every other corner!

I like your new name! It fits with the new you. smilewinkgrin

I am in San Antonio, Texas and had my surgery done at Brooke Army Medical Center, recently renamed San Antonio Military Medical Center, by colo-rectal surgeon Major Katherine Markell and she ROCKS!!! All military hospitals are teaching hospitals and I am FINE with that b/c my husband is medical and how would he have a job if someone like me didn't say "sure, let the student/intern/resident change the dressing/lance the abcess/take out the drain" :)

I live in Perth, Western Australia and had my surgery here at a local children's hospital 35 years ago :)

Central Florida....hubby had the surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL. Awesome colorectal surgeon and the GI department that took care of hubby for 3 years there were also excellent. No complaints here.

I am from northwest Ohio, and have been having all my surgeries done at the Cleveland Clinic. I would never even think to go to the hospitals around here for what I need. My surgeon has been nothing short of amazing so far at the clinic, I would recommend him to anyone.

I live in Berlin, Germany, and I'm taken care of at Charite Hospital, a learning hospital. I've healed from the first two according to the book, and my surgeon has done great lapro work. He has done the colectomy-jpouch procedure many times over and I trust his experience 100%.
I do wish the hospital had given me more info both times before I went home, like about the stoma shrinking and the leakages, and then after I got the loop stoma, no one said anything about looking out for dehydration signs, which is what happened.

I'm from the UK and was lucky enough to have my surgery at St.Marks hospital in London.

Can't tell you how great my surgeon is, such an amazing guy. His lapro work is brilliant, my scars are very small.

I live in New Jersey and had my surgeries at Jefferson University hospital in Philadelphia. It is a teaching hospital and a fantastic one.

I live in Boston, MA, had my surgery done at Mass General -- big teaching hospital, great surgeon. Congrats on the name change. Your original name still holds in general, but good that you don't have to think of that every time you write here.....

     I live in south Jersey (Bellmawr, exit 3 of the turnpike) and had my surgery....total colectomy with end ileostomy....performed by Dr. Robert Fry at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philly.  I don't trust the hospitals or surgeons in south Jersey for major surgery.

Upstate/Eastern NY, having my surgeries at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Manhattan. Great place, everyone I have come in contact with has been wonderful!

I go there now, Ju330! My new surgeon is out of there. I will be going for a stoma revision soon at Mt Sinai. They are the best on the east coast!

Born and grew up in Dearborn, MI. Moved around Detroit subs  until retired in northern MI 2006. Colectomy done at Troy Beaumont Hospital 2007, 160 miles away. One week later helicopter ride to Royal Oak Beaumont Hospital, 180 miles away, with peitonitis.

Cece I read yours and kept thinking it said COLDER retirees and I was like sh. e's crazy! Then I realized its the pain meds I'm crazy!

I live nowhere you've ever heard of, but its about an hour and half from charlotte, nc. I had my surgery there at presby, I had a great surgeon, he came in at like midnight Friday night, when I went in last week. He says he tells about me and how I chose perm ileo so quickly and did so well, esp when he has young people debating.
I got to pick who I wanted and my husband worked for presby at that time so he knew who to choose. That's the worst thing about dh working in oregon, we have to eait in ers now!

Maryland - Johns Hopkins Hospital

My colectomy was performed on a Sunday. I was in /very/ bad shape at the time, and was given the option for either Sunday or Monday. I chose Sunday... the surgery team stayed late on the weekend especially for me. One of the surgeons himself even came to push my bed down from the room. I have been immensely satisfied with my post-surgery care, and I would very very highly recommend Johns Hopkins to anyone in the area.

I'm from Santa Barbara, CA but had my surgery at USC Norris Cancer Hospital in Los Angeles. It is a teaching hospital. My surgeon was the world famous Dr. Robert Beart. I love that man.
