This is my first post, just found this great site. I had my first surgery in1983, then in 1995 I had a BCIR...a continent ileostomy. My surgery was because of pan-colitis, diagnosed in 1977 with the surgery in 1983. My life improved to a degree except for the discovery that my small bowel does not function correctly and I have had trouble ever since. My case is unusual, I know, but I think that the surgery is the best thing that I could ever have done. I had the continent ileostomy done because my output was so high and liquid that the bags wouldn't stay on. But what a great change in life the surgery was and I will never regret it....have married two times since, so I know that it is not something that keeps others away! (Currently been married for 18 years, and he is the one who heard about
the continent ileostomy possibillity which solved my problem of leaking bags which were keeping me housebound). No regrets, not a one.
