Cut Stoma

I went to see my stoma nurse (can't remember her proper title) because I was having some irritation, and what I thought was a "lip" along the bottom of my stoma.

Turns out my stoma is actually cut. I am not sure how or why this happened. My only guess is that I had cut the opening too small.

I also had a slight rash beneath the cut.

She gave me some suggestions but I think it might be too soon to say if they are helping.

Anyone have any experience with a cut stoma? How long did it take to heal, and feel normal again?

Well, we don't know exactly why it is cut, only that it is. I can't imagine what else could have caused it. I haven't done anything that I am aware of.

At my last change - Sunday - it was still looking pretty nasty and it hurt to clean and was bleeding a bit. I haven't changed again since.

I am trying to get in to see her again this week and see how things are.

I was hoping someone here had had this problem, but I guess it is fairly uncommon.

I am not overly worried - just curious of others experiences.

I am seeing my nurse on Thursday morning, so we'll have another look then.

The new hollister moldables seem to be helpful for now.
