Update on the pyoderma

My GI prescribed tacrolimus ointment and wants me back on the dapsone too.  So, I'm doing Humira injections, taking dapsone orally and putting ointment on the area - seriously if all this doesn't work I'm so over it.  I told him I will give it 6 weeks and if I haven't seen SIGNIFICANT change then I am going for the oral steroids to just get it over with.

To add insult to injury, I am developing a yeast infection on my skin at the very outer edge of my skin barrier.  Super duper.

Sorry you're going through all this. I know the temptation of pred -- it's awful, but it works...

Are you getting regular blood work? I was on dapsone for a bit, but it messed w/my liver functions, so I went off of it (didn't help in my case, but I had a different skin issue).

Hope something works soon. Your immune system is not happy.

Hmm, no - no bloodwork. I suppose I should bring that up, I'd think the doc would have ordered it if necessary - perhaps b/c I am on a low dosage? I dunno but I will bring it up, thanks for that!

Good news to report is that I changed everything tonight (only getting about 36 hours out of a pouch nowadays) and HOLY MOLY what a difference in my skin already! I'm very pleased and hope it continues on this path. My WOCN did give me some fungal powder for the bit of the yeast infection, seemed to have made that a bit better as well. Only crap thing is today was a Humira shot - BUT tomorrow I leave for a girls weekend in Dallas YAY silver lining!

My surgeon injected steroids right in my pyoderma. It killed but it is not as deep now and almost cleared up the smaller spot of pyoderma. It was so deep before, he was worried about a fistla forming and stool coming out of it. He also said he could do the injection next time in the hospital were he could give me something for the pain ( I wish he would of said that the first time). Maybe you can look into the injection's it works fast. GOOD LUCK!!

It seemed to be clearing up well, the larger lesion was beginning to close over and 2 smaller "holes" were completely closed over. THEN, the closed over holes opened up and joined to form a larger hole :( The lesion looks GREAT however but now I have some kind of rash under my wafer - everyone is debating whether it is a yeast infection or contact dermatitis. I just noticed I have the start of the same rash on my forearm so not sure what the heck is going on!

Currently treating it as a yeast infection with topical anti-fungal powder (that's fun to pouch over!) and if there hasn't been significant change by Wednesday (my next appointment) we will have to switch appliances to see if it is an allergic reaction - which totally stinks b/c I leave for a roadtrip home on Friday :(
