My surgeon is using staples to create my JPouch (if he ever okays me to be healthy and healed enough from the 1st surgery).
Staples will be in me forever.
Has anyone else had this?
My real question is I fly every year for at least one if not more than one vacation. Do they come up on the body scanner??

I have dozens of them and they do not show in airport body scanners.

Yes, that is how the surgery is done. If you get a jpouch, you get staples. They are very tiny....you won't set off any alarms... I asked! :)

Thanks!!! I wasn't sure how to explain that to the strange (as in complete stranger), sometimes odd and slightly crazy, agents.

I also believe that the fact that they are titanium has something to do with them not being picked up with metal detectors.

w.t.f. staples....I didn't know that. I thought they would be a temporary thing until the j pouch fusions itself together.

Sometimes the staples will pass, don't be surprised or alarmed if you see them in the toilet. It's normal.

Sue, are you saying that titanium spaples will go away eventually, or j pouch people will forever have staples holding the pouch together.

Somedude: My understanding is that the staples are there forever but sometimes the odd one will fall out and pass with the stool.

I'm getting re-evaluated for a takedown of my ileostomy in July and I was freaked out by knowing staples will be in me forever. I'm glad to hear they get encased in flesh... kind of freaked out by hearing they pass. ouch? I'm worried that a quick twist after the six week healing time will result in my intestine ripping because of the staple... I guess I'll have to ask my surgeon.
