     I just read one of your posts where you mentioned having other organs removed.  What organs did you have to have removed, if you don't mind my asking?

     Since my operation, total colectomy with end ileostomy, in June of 2010, I have had some "women" problems.  I am over twenty years postmenopause and started "spotting" about a month or so post op.  My gyn doctor sent me for a transvaginal ultrasound and did a PAP test and both were negative.  It's been almost two years since I have had those tests.  One of the gyn doctors said dryness could cause spotting and maybe this is the case, but I still don't like it.  I see the gyn doctor on the 31st of July.  I sure don't want to go through that transvaginal ultrasound again shocked ,,,ugh, that hurt like the dickens!

     My colorectal surgeon told me it could be related to the surgery. But, two years later???  Maybe things just get tossed around inside...maybe I am ovulating again..lol.

After the total colectomy, I restarted having regular but extremely painful periods. I had stopped having periods many years before. Personally, I think I went through very early menopause because of the uc. During a three month period, my ovaries went from the size of a walnut to the size of lemons. The pain had become 24/7. Ultrasound indicated tumors. Uterine biopsies were negative. I had three surgeons doing the second surgery: urologist, oncologist and colorectal. It was scary. I had 2 lymph nodes, 2 ovaries and 2 Fallopian tubes removed and the j-pouch created. Everything tested neg. for cancer. Surgeons concluded that the ovaries had been damaged when my colon perforated but the damage did not show until months later. I kept the uterus.
Have you had an endocrinology test done? That really helped me figure out what to do. My hormone levels were definitely not in
a menopausal state. I use a twice weekly hormone patch now. If
I need it, I will also use the estrogen topical cream. It is supposed to be great for vaginal dryness.
If I could just get permanently rid of the anal pain, I would be very happy. Last night was particularly bad. Surgeon said it just a matter of time.

     My menopause was completed by the age of 45.  I was diagnosed with UP at age 52.  Most women on my mother's side of the family all went through early menopause.  My daughter just turned 40 and is already in perimenopause.

     I have no pain, but rarely get a bit of cramping at the site of my ovaries.  Today I had them earlier. 

     Actually, my colon was not in bad shape, only minor diverticulosis.  Unfortunately, my rectum was badly diseased.  When the rectum must go, so must the rest of the colon shakehead .

     Thank you for responding.  I'll see what the gyn doctor has to say on the 31st.  The last time I had a hormonal test was waaaaay back, probably 20 yrs ago and at that time my estrogen was low.  I never took any hormone replacement and glad I did not.

I have severe migraines without hormone replacements. Hopefully, I will only need the supplements a few years. It sounds like you have a very different and, hopefully, much easier situation.
