Hot Air Balloons

Sorry about the subject - couldn't resist, LOL.  I have completely different habits between day and night.  It is strange.  I never pass significant gas during the day.  My stoma never embarrasses me that way, thank goodness.  However, the night is a different story.  I wake up at least once a night to empty an inflated balloon!  This morning it was so full (of mostly air) I swear it would have popped any minute.  Does anyone else experience this? 

Also, after I empty each morning, and usually the consistency is pretty thick, I almost always have to empty about a half hour later, and this time is almost all liquid.  Sometimes there is super thick stuff up by my stoma, but not all of the time.  Does anyone else have an issue like this?  I am wondering why I am passing pure liquid every morning before I even eat or drink anything.     

This used to happen to me when I had my ostomy- both the bag full of air at night and the liquid poo in the morning. I always figured the liquid stuff was just because there was nothing solid left to digest, as I hadn't eaten since the night before. I don't know, though, that's just what I figured.

The bag full of air at night started happening to me all the time the month or so before my takedown; I don't know why, maybe I started eating differently or something. I would frequently wake up, like you said, with my bag about to pop! Most of the time I'd sit up (so as not to make a mess, lol) and just let the air out in bed because I didn't feel like getting up. Only problem was that I'd wake up later in the morning and the room would still smell sometimes- lol!!

I had the bag of air in the a.m. soon after my original ileo surgery back in the good old days when my first stoma was working. Then that dwindled but there was still a normal amount of air and I would empty twice per night and life was good.

Now once the old stoma stenosed and I got the new one which worked for a month now does not work efficiently because of some weird shape issue, I wake up with a totally empty bag no gas no stool after 8 hours of sleep. SO NOT NORMAL for an ileo. So be glad for poop, be glad for air.....

BUT I do see your point. I never had an air explosion but I do remember it being like the good year blimp when my first stoma was new. Rosemary

I have more gas at night than any other time. I never thought about it because before the ostomy, I was always gassy when I was sleep at night. Regardless of diet.

Sometimes my output (usually middle of day) is very firm. Other times (around evening) it is very watery.

You are not alone. I don't know the reasons why but I do know you are not alone.
