Thanks Killcolitis, I sure hope I find the right help soon!!!! What gets me is that I have been to all top hospitals in my area with this stoma issue. I do not understand why they cannot see with either a totally closed stoma or with one only
open a Q-tips diameter that there is an issue. they all say "there is nothing to do", That is how they all end their office visit notes. Go figure! The one whose resident put the cracks in my stoma with the finger dilation through which poop came and i was put on my own peritonitis watch til the cracks healed said "don"t pay so much attention to your stoma". i'm like if it was
open and working i would be off on my next cruise as i had planned. i show all these docs my list of cruises so they won't accuse me of malingering.
one of the worst was the hospitalist doc when i was inpatient with my totally closed stoma prior to the revision that is now stenosing but is
open at least a qtip worth so far. the hospitalist said "there is no medical reason to keep you here". at that point i was unable to eat or drink or pass anything through my stoma. i said flat out "i cannot eat, drink, or pass any waste out of my body, why is that not medical grounds to stay in hospital at least for hydration and pain control?" can you believe the guy just smiled!!!!!!
As I needed an IV for hydration and was only 2 days from the revision that was at least a try, (not a great outcome but that doc at least had compassion and did save my life for now anyway), I took a check out of my wallet and said to the discharge planner, how about
if I pay you twice what the hospital could get from my insurance if you let me stay here and keep hydrated. Her face got so red I thought she was going to stroke out. She stammered and said we have never done this. I said that's OK there's a first time for everything. can you ask your supervisor. She scurried about
all mad and everything. At that point I just had to buy two days of time on an IV and I was going to get the revision that monday. SHe came back and said absoultely NOT. Now I figure my local hospital NOT TOO BRIGHT refusing twice the amount of money that they would have made off my ins. They didn't get that I was trying to save my life. They are all into all this health stuff and health programs locally what a crock!
So after the much needed revision my veins collapsed in my good arm and my other arm cannot be used for IV access due to a nerve injury. So at least june was good but now we have the qtip size
opening and am praying i can get help cross country. will need a port for iv access now as my veins are shot. would not be in this issue if my original ileo surgeon had not retired or if his successors had dealt with the obvious stenosis. i don't get how so many of the medical profession can simply leave someone with a life threatening condition and think that it is OK. If their rectums closed up they would be the first to complain.
GOD FORBID, but IF I cannot get help at the place I am going on the medical flight next weekend, I am going to ask what country I need to go to to get help. I mean somewhere on the face of the planet HAS to be a doc who can revise a stoma revision that did not work out. I am only out to get my life saved. Not to do anything to any of these stoma makers. I make that very clear. I just don't get it.
Pray for me that I make it til the weekend and get the help I need. I am going about
as far from my home as I can and still be in the country. If need be I will also leave the country to try and get this tended to. R
