I have ordered some samples from Hollister (don't know if I really ordered the ones I should have... I was getting confused-I ended up requesting two different bags for samples), Convatec, and already had some samples from Coloplast for sensitive skin people.

Any other companies I'm not thinking of? I'm trying to cover all my bases before I actually pick the next ones to officially order (and pay for).

And does anyone know when the Sensura Mio is going to be available (in the USA)? I really like what I'm reading about those and they are supposed to do..

Those are the only 3 companies we requested samples from in the beginning trying to find "the" right system for my husband. I think there are a few other smaller companies you can also get samples from and I am sure someone will come along with the info for you. Good Luck.

     They sent me home from the hospital (Operation June of 2010) with Hollister.  After having two bags break on me....one while watching a comedy club act at the Borgata in AC....I switched to Coloplast sensura, one piece.  I never looked back.  Love those bags!

Some of the other companies are Marlen and Cymed.

My surgery was scheduled pretty quickly. I tried two different brands at the hospital, and then I had the visiting nurse order samples, and I also got some from edgepark. But I also stuck w/coloplast sensura.

I think that sensura mio is only for colostomies.... are you having a colostomy or an ileostomy? It looks a bit like the cymed pouch, though, which is different from the others.... so you might want to try that (I never tried it, although I got a sample... have heard mixed reviews w/some people loving it, and others having it leak right away....)

Blueglass--I have an ileostomy.

Christine1946 -- I'm having fits with the closure. I like to rinse my bag out. And when I go to empty it when the poo is more water than not or I'm rinsing, I have to be REAL careful to not spill on me or all over my hands. And I'm still playing with them to get more time out of them. Usually my bags last 4 full days. My first Sensura lasted 2 and half days. Maybe it is because I used the 3m skin barrier just as added help since I have some irritation from other bags. Other than that, I do love the Sensura improvement on the itching and such on my skin.

In addition to Coloplast, Convatec & Hollister, I also contacted Marlen, Cymed & Dansac for samples.   All were fairly generous with pouch samples & products.  Fell in love with the Convatec Convex Moldable [well, as much as one can fall in love with an ostomy pouch  smilewinkgrin  ] so haven't tried any other ones in quite a while.

I also was able to get samples of Eakin and Adapt seals, just for asking.   Hollister and Convatec also sent me their emergency kits which are very handy--canvas bags with scissors & mirrors.  They will also send samples of stoma powder, paste, etc.

I still call for samples if there is a new product I want to try, like some recently mentioned the Brava elastic tape by Coloplast.  They have actually run out of samples of it, but said I would receive it in a few weeks.

Jen, do you sit or stand to empty?   I stand and fortunately my output is normally thicker.  However, sometimes I am very liquid and I do rinse occasionally.  When mine is liquidy, for whatever reason, I am careful to keep the bottom curled up while undoing the bottom or while swishing.  Then I grasp the opening and use my fingers to close off 1/2 to 2/3 of the opening and slowly turn the end down towards the bowl.  This way I can control the amount of liquid going out and not gush.
