How long after ileostomy did you have takedown?

I'm having a 2 step, first step done on August 3rd. Tired of the ostomy already, want to give the j pouch a go. Seeing the surgeon on wed. How long did you guys have to go before takedown?

Hang in there Brian...even though you are looking at a short term situation with your ostomy, you will need to care for it in the same way as if it were permanent so you get the best results and least amount of problems. Don't want to see you suffer for the remaining time you have with it.

If my husband was able to have the j-pouch 2 step process as hoped and anticipated the surgeon mentioned 3-4 months for the takedown. Hopefully yours will be even quicker.

I had the two step procedure and I had my ileo just over three months. I had a lot of trouble with my ileo so I was so ready to see it go. I probably would have had my takedown sooner but I had some complications after step one that set me back a bit.

It was a little more than three months. My recovery has been much better then I expected. I had so many problems with the temp ileo that I hardly went anywhere. My blips with the j-pouch have been nothing in comparison. I hope you have the same experience with the take down.

I was supposed to have mine after 90 days. I should have it next month. It will be 18 months. However, I understand why and I really think it will be worth the wait!!!!

Tiaeight, many people at another site indicated that they had an extremely short adjustment period if there was more than six months between the j-pouch creation and the takedown. Has your surgeon mentioned this? Just curious about whether or not this is an anecdotal conclusion.

I also had the three step procedure. Because I was still taking prenisone at the ti,e of the first surgery, the surgeon said I will wait six months until the 2nd, in which he cretes the jpouch. I ended up waiting 8 months, becqause I had started a new job. Take down ca,e three months qfter the 2nd op. The surgeon said he could have done it 6 weeks after, but I needed a longer break from the hospital, so I waited three months.

8 weeks, but it was supposed to be 6 weeks but surgeon was out of town.

Every surgeon has their own schedule which also factors in patient health. Having an ostomy longer does not mean you will have the best results. Remember, this surgery is done as a one-step with people eating and passing stool with a week of surgery. Be patient.

I had 3 step. 6months between steps 1 and 2. Mandatory waiting requirement by my surgeon. Then I waited one year before steps 2 and 3 due to work/life issues.

Dillon had his done in 3 steps. 4 months between first and second surgery and then 8 weeks between second and third. Both were minimums that our surgeon would allow.

Just as a note: Dillon really did not like his ileostomy at the beginning after his first surgery but there really is a learning curve and by the time his second surgery rolled around the ileostomy was really not a big deal at all.

My daughter is 12 and is having the 3 step. We are now done with the 2nd step. After the first surgery we waited 3 months before the second (J pouch formation). We are now waiting 8 weeks (26 days to go) before the takedown. We all hate this dang ileo. It has a mind of its own and we struggle with wafers, leakage from the gas filters, skin bumps). CANNOT wait for the third surgery.

SO AMAZING, however, that since her first surgery on Oct 7, 2013, that there's been no UC pain, no medication. Praise be!
