     Yesterday, I purchased a real nice dress for our daughter's wedding Sept 29th.  It is fitted around the waist but flares at the hip.  I still want to lose a few pounds, but, is there anything I can wear that will make me look slimmer around the hips?  They sort of bulge out a tad.  My "bag" is not visible, thank GOD.  I used to wear the stockings with built in panty girdle but the saleslady didn't think that would be a good idea with an ostomy.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Don't know why you cant wear the same underattire you used to wear before. What does the dress sales lady know about an ostomy? Can't imagine why you can't wear what you wore before or some spanx type of thing.

Try Spanx....they work great for slimming the hip area. When I had my temp ileo, I wore them under a dress I had to wear for a wedding and it worked out perfect. The Spanx undergarment kept the bag nice a secure too. Enjoy that wedding! :)

I think it's great that the saleslady was thinking about what is good or not good for the stoma!
When I had the stoma there were problems with tight clothes (cqused panckaing and leakage) so I never thought about spnx, but maybe I will now.

I think it might be a good idea to experiment and wear the undergarments you think you want to wear that day under another similar form fitting dres/slacks to see how it performs.

I don't have one but my guess is maybe a few extra trips to the ladies room to empty so if there is any pancaking or accumulation you dispose of it before it can present a problem that day????

i have worn hose, and tights and my fat sucker thing, girdle type things and all kinds of other tight stuff. I just make sure to go empty often.

     Thanks girls!!!  I don't know what Spanx are..lol.  I will go shopping over the weekend and find out.  Started watching my diet carefully yesterday and hope to lose about 5 - 8 lbs by Sept 29th.  My daughter said..."Ma!  You had all summer, but NO you had to go to the casino buffets smilewinkgrin !"

My daughter is getting married September 14! I lost weight from the surgery so I'm good, but I'd be scared to wear something so tight. Glad to hear it can be done! Enjoy!

Christine-go to Target...they have the cheaper version of Spanx. I haven't had a problem using their product. But, like summerstorm mentioned, you'll probably want to empty more often.

Also, what ever you decide on, wear it a few times before to know how it will be!

Hi!

I have Spanx and wear them when I need a real trim look, but I wear Sweet Nothings from WalMart on just a daily basis when I need something like that...I do wear my regular panties under that because I don't like the bag to lay against my skin. You can easily wear Spanx or panty girdles. I just keep mine emptied more regularly, if necessary.

     Was out shopping and could not find Spanx at Target or Boscov's.  I used to wear the stockings with built in panties that hold you in before my operation,  but don't know if they would be ok.  Also...do you think I should get a size larger?  I am 5'2 in and weigh around 125.

I am on my fourth ileostomy. Probably up to about 4 years total with ileostomies. And I wear tight stuff ALL the time. I think all that matters is that you are comfortable on that day. Simple as that. Target does have "spanx like" stuff. I just saw it the other day there. Sorry but I don't recall what name they used on them.


Why don't you put on your your stocking/panty things that you used to wear and try them out around the house for several hours. See what you think. You may be a bit more comfortable going up a size because you have appliance stuff now.

But honestly.. I have never ever had any problem wearing anything too tight. I like tight things.. because it keeps the bag and stuff very secure. And thats how I dressed pre-ostomy so no reason I can't dress like that now.

     Thanks...I bought stockings at Walgreens with the built in panty girdle. I did buy a size larger than I used to.  I have belly control undies and I HATE them..lol.  I cannot stand anything tight around my stomach.  I suppose for that one day, I will just grin and bear it.  I started the Weight Watcher's Diet on Sunday....man it's hard to be on a diet.  I haven't dieted since the Atkins (or is it Adkin's?) Diet threw me into my first flare back in 98.  I just would like to lose 5 lbs or so.  This weather we have been having is the PITS!  I love to walk and it is soooo hot and humid with thunderstorms and tornadoes.  Crazy because we live in south Jersey.  A tornado came through our hometown of Bellmawr yesterday!  Thank GOD we had no damage but the other side of town looks like a bomb hit it.
