This will be the first fall since 2009 that I am not going back to work with any UC symptoms (and there were quite a few other falls that I went back with symptoms too).  It will be the first fall since 1997 that I am going back to work medication free.  I have never started a school year in my career without UC - another milestone!!!  I just pray that there are no issues this year and that I have a totally uneventful school year.  Even after my surgery last November, I had nothing but problems until my revision surgery in late May.  It would be awesome to have all of my energy and not have to worry at all about my health at work for once!

Congrats UC_free -- wishing you a great school year! I hope your year is uneventful regarding bad events, but that it's better than that regarding good.

I am right there with you... we start classes on Wed. I last taught for a week in Jan 2011 -- ended up in the hospital, surgery, medical leave for the rest of the semester (last year was sabbatical, although I would have needed leave then too had I been working).

Hope you get off to a great start!

My whole family goes back to school tomorrow too (husband is an academic and little ones start a new school). I could cry. I'm the odd parent who actually loves having them home and hates back to school time. They can't wait though.

Well, I am up and actually slept last night! I usually have trouble the night before. Good luck to you also Blueglass!!! I thought about you as well - I knew it had been longer since you'd been back and was hoping things would go really well for a change!!

UC_free, great that you slept, I know what you mean about the night before. I used to be up a lot, and then when I finally fell asleep I'd dream something like that it was halfway through the semester and I found out that I was supposed to teach my classes in Spanish and I forgot to learn Spanish..... and the students arrived and each brought five friends, and they played loud music and wouldn't turn it off....

I did find that doing administrative work is a great cure for teaching anxiety though....now teaching feels like a treat.

And I'm finding that having been through the real crises of the last few years is putting some of my work "crises" in perspective.

Of course I don't mind that you joined in! I get the dreaming thing! Although I did sleep, there were several weird dreams in there, as always.

I got through the day, and shockingly, I found out that my students' test scores from last year were waaay up! I was thrilled to learn that today. I can't believe it. I mean, I did work really, really hard despite being so ill, but I still can't believe things went as well as they did. At least I can breath for another year.

Wonderful news uc_free, I'm one of the ones following your story, I work PT in a school district but in the kitchen. Would have been an elem teacher had cancer not interfered with my plans......anyway, I know first hand how demanding being a teacher can be and how little private time you have during your work day (which continues long into the night at home sometimes).

Hang in there. You have a great support system here!

Great news. I was a teacher too. Never got back after my initial injuries that lead to needing an ileo but I traveled instead for 4 years. So want to get back to that. Hoping I can. Have a great school year. Rosemary

Awesome.. delighted for you both! Glad you had such a great first day too.

I'm slightly envious :-( as I have some fantastic work projects on at the moment and loads of exciting plans.. BUT still struggling on with no definitive end in sight. SO tough.

Really thrilled for you though and can totally imagine what that feeling must be like :-)
