Just wanted to thank you for posting this topic..
Most posts are for help with trouble, and sometimes we forget how to laugh.

I love hearing all of the stoma names and the stories associated with them. There are some real gems in here ranging from humor to new beginnings and inspirations.

Elmo, after St. Elmo....
the patron saint of Gastrointestinal Things...
the saint was tortured on the rack, angels saved him...caught and burned at the stake,
Angels saved him...caught again, what they did to him slayed him, they disemboweled
him and wound his intestines around a ship's cargo hoist and strung him up...
(Pretty much how i felt after waking from my surgery...)

1st colostomy was Fred when it was good...Freddie when it was bad.

2nd colostomy is Bubbles....

3rd time is going to be called This is it! Lol...

I never had any inclination to name it, anymore so than I would name anything else on my body. Don’t have names for my eyes or knees or elbows lol. Besides some of the previous names are such pretty names like Stewart, Lilly, and Lola. I happen to know people by those names. I would hate to have a friend tell me a name for their stoma and have it be the same as some person I know. Guess I’m in the minority here.

I had my stoma for about 10 months. Was very uncomfortable for me. I had colorectal surgery about 11 years ago and the staples came loose and all the bacteria which I call poison consumed my body. It was a life saving measure at the time. I started my chemo treatments and when that ended, the colostomy was reversed. I named my stoma Stomie. Even after the reversal, I can still hear and feel the gurgling and it will always be a reminder to me how lucky I was to have survived and also how lucky I am that it was able to be reversed.
