Hey guys! I am completely new at this so maybe I'm in the wrong topic. My dad had a whipped procedure back in February which resulted in many difficult complications including Sepsis and 3 fistulas right after his surgery. We spent 3 months in the hospital!. He is scheduled to go back to surgery on the 7th of November and on Wednesday he went back into septic shock due to E. coli which I am guessing came from these three fistulas. I've been his primary caretaker since we came back home in May. He uses an eakin pouch to help keep the drainage somewhere. He is also in very high spirits.
He is responding VERY well to antibiotics, no longer and no longer on vasopressors. The doctors still feel comfortable doing this surgery, but they say its very risky.
Has anyone has like situations? Although we are a family of faith, it is a very very scary thought considering than one of the fistulas is so proximal to his stomach so he does gain much nutrition from any foods or vitamins. He's been on TPN for the past 3-4 months and its taking a toll on his liver which wasn't doing to well anyway.
Any personal input would be very valuable to us. Thanks.
