hi larasmom thx for asking. i fianlly got seen today due to intervention of a nutritionist. thank god. they took the tube out and checked the stoma with a pink y finger exam. this resident said it was not as tight as it had been. not sure how she knew as she did not do my emergency check and tube dec. 2 but then they put the tube bback in. it reallly hurt when they put it back. then while i was changing my appliance the tube fell out. my social worker i hired went to get them. i asked them to show me how toput it in myself. they showed me. i did it in a way that did not hurt.
i had reported a lot of pain like the start of a small bowel obstruction pain when i had some sherbert and some broth so they are going to do some test monday to see if any adhesion strictures farther up they do not think so
they said if no narrowings show then i have to start back on real food. i siad nothing but liquids clear ones go thru me. they said if i back up ican flush the tube and they will show me how. jeeze! isaid the reason i quit eating was the stoma will not put out waste. they said the pain may be from havinng not eaten.
they said in 3 to 6 months the scarring behind the stoma should soften. i do know there is some rule about if you need a new stoma one is not supposed to be done before 3 to 6 months.
the actual surggeon did not show for the appointment. interesting. not sure if she was even around. but the fellow that was in on my case was there. seemed like he was hearing me. he said the test monday would be me drinking gastrograffin. he said there would be diarrhea. i know that one time tracy said her technicain said that you could not get gastrograffin down orally. tey have barium listed on the directions but i have an allergy to that. they said tell them monday when i am at the test. if the stuff they give me gives diarrhea like he said then won't i dehydrate? right now grape jujice is coming out of me. he said that thes test was to prove to me no issues further up.
so i got seen. progress made. i told him it was right after they took the really wide tube out of my stoma that it basically slammed shut and i ended up in the ER and needed the permanent drain tube (for now anyway) he did not say if my thoery was right. but i did hear if you stretch a stoma too much it will react by closing due to the inflammation.
the drain tube goes in about 4 inches. it also has to go around some bend in my small bowel behind the stoma. I so wish my st0ma of 2007 had not slammed shut this year. id do not kno0w why it would after this loongg, but now is now. scary huh?
i do have a consult for dec 24 on other side of country and want to ask before i fly in a costly medevac plane with cabin pressurized to ground level if i should hang here and see? the consult will give me no info over the phone or by fax. they want to see me. logically but...........what would you all do?
