Post-op Pain or UTI??

Hi all,

I am having pain in my abdomen, back and now a sharper pain on the left side (especially when up).

Initially, I thought it might be a UTI because everything abdominally kind of hurts after I urinate. But then I thought maybe that's just because of the work they did inside and as the bladder fills and empties, it causes discomfort.

I am 2 weeks post-op from step 2 of 3 with the pouch being created and I have a loop ileo.

Oh, and just to add, the bleeding from last week has stopped.

Did you have pain like this from your surgeries? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

could possibly be a UTI. If it is.. definitely something you don't want lingering. Call your doc and do a urine test on monday. easy enough for sure.

     I had a UTI about a month or so post op.  If I remember correctly, I did have lower back pain and burning upon urination.  Have your family doctor run a urinalysis test.

I had a uti as soon as I got home from step 2 of 3. They had to catherize me twice, I think that's why. I went to the hospital and they did a blood test, established that there was a low-grade infection and put me on antibiotics. It cleared up almost immediately.
You should let your doctor know about the pains, because if it is not a uti it could be something else and you don't want to carry anything around longer than necessary.

Hi i am 3 week post op and still have pain in my left side and back more so when i am upright I don't know what it is either i put it down to having hands inside moving things around. hope you feel better soon Bev X

Definitely get checked out because I had pain you are describing and I ended up having an abscess/infection in my pelvic area. I too thought I had a UTI. I was also running a fever.

I am ten days post-op with stage 1 and stage 2 of the j-pouch surgery done together and my symptoms are nearly identical. I don't have any burning while peeing but a slight pain in the abdomen when I am about done urinating. It's like the bladder is getting squeezed and putting pressure on the incisions. I also have lower back pain on the right side. I am occasionally running low grade fever (mostly 99 to 99.5). I wonder if I just need to be more patient and wait for these things to get better or see the surgeon.

ok... a urinary infection can be a bad thing after surgery. Also they are very very common. The test is so very simple. So UC.. just get a urine test to rule it out. If that is negative and you still feel unusual pain, you need to see your surgeon. You could have an abscess which needs draining and that too is something you don't want lingering.

I ended up with multiple abscesses and urine infections after my last surgery to remove my jpouch. They found all of it while I was still in the hospital fortunately. However it lengthened my hospital stay into a month long one! Abscesses were drained various ways. And I ended up on numerous IV antibiotics at the hospital and was sent home on a PICC line for them.

Yes, it could all be normal post op pain, or nerve stuff that is recovering... but if its not.. you want these things taken care of sooner than later.

For those who ended up with a UTI, I am just finishing antibiotics for one, and noticed the last few days my stools have been VERY green (even tho I didn't eat anyhting green), does that mean a different type of infection?
