stomach pains! Gas?

My husband had UC and has a total colectomy with temp end ileo for about 3 yrs.  He has a moderate parastomal hernia that gives him blockage issues from time to time, but he's usually able to 'pop' it back in with no issues.   The last few days he's had a gassy, bloated feeling, but is still having output and isn't feeling nausated.  He says he just feels like everything is moving really slowly through him.  The pain and discomfort is  bad enough that he came home from work.  He's also complaining of a sore back.  He snow plowed the driveway today and there was some heavy lifting, so maybe he strained something?  The discomfort and pain is on the opposite side of his stoma.  Whenever he doesn't feel well, I immediately assume the worst, so I'm kind of upset right now.  Is it likely gas?  Muscle strain?  Something worse?  I'm hoping that I'm just being really paranoid...

I hope he feels better today. I surely hope if it worsened or he hasn't turned the corner, you've called your surgeon.

He's feeling better than yesterday, but still has a gurgly, tender tummy. I wonder if he had a partial blockage? Sigh. It's in a different spot than he normally has trouble with, so I'm scared we're going down a long blockage road again with repeated, repeated, repeated blockages. This disease just keeps taking, taking, taking.

I don't know if this helps or not but...
A friend of mine at work had a BIG hernia for years. It was never painful or a 'problem'. Her doctors told her that since it was so big, they choose to leave it alone until it became a problem.
Last year, she had emergency surgery because it became a problem QUICK.
Has your husband's doctor said anything like her doctors did? Maybe his hernia is becoming a problem just on a slower scale than my friend's.
Personally, I would have the pain checked out. Even if it is not related to the hernia or a blockage, I would want to make sure it is not a new hernia or new problem that is better caught early.

Here is an incredibly dumb question..I know when I drink anything carbonated it is terrible!! Bloat up right way, and so much gas..but everything else moves really slowly..Did he by chance drink/eat something he doesn't normally?
Just a thought! Hope he feels better today..but heat should help too..especially if it is a muscle pull..

Hmmm...His portion control hasn't been the greatest lately, so maybe that contributed. The unsettling thing was that his pain was in a totally different spot than it normally is. I'm just afraid that a new wonderful surprise is brewing. He was careful with what he ate yesterday and still had some pain. One day at a time I guess. We may need to shop for a better GI doc. His PCP is fine, but doesn't have much to offer in the ostomy area. His surgeon is good, but is waiting for my hubby to decide on perm ileo or jpouch; doesn't want to go in a fix hernia it is isn't an emergent problem until jpouch surgery time--wants to avoid extra abdominal surgery. I hate this so much. I feel like crying all the time.

I have also had something similar for the last week, and I also think it was a partial obstruction that just takes a little time to pass, when it does it's as if the pain which is left over is bruising from all the stretching the small bowel does to accommodate the extra load. Does your husband have an end or loop ileostomy? I think my distention and specifically lower back pain and pelvic pain is caused from overflow with my loop ileostomy - I think stool and gas passes into rectum and the pressure causes the pain. Do you think it could be something similar with your husband?

I have found that eating smaller lighter meals or even fluids for a few days definitely helps ease the discomfort and helps the blockage to pass easier. Overeating / large portions definitely makes things worse.
