Abdominal soreness

Hey guys,

Hope everyone is doing well. I had a question. I had a single incision laparoscopic total colectomy with end ileostomy. Basically a lot of words saying that the ONLY incision that I have is the one through which my ostomy comes out (pretty freaking awesome!). In any case, my surgery was 3/4 so it's been about 7 weeks. I know recovery times can vary but I have been feeling a LOT of abdominal soreness, especially around the site of stoma. It feels like it did when I had just come out of surgery, where it really hurts to laugh or blow my nose or any abdominal exertion. And at baseline, there is a soreness there. The issue I'm having is that for the past 4 weeks or so I haven't felt any soreness at all and it just started again all of a sudden. Can this be normal? I just feel like I am regressing which is NOT good! Haha.

I'm sure I am just overexaggerating and I might have stretched wrong last night or something and that's just making me a little sore. But I thought I'd ask anyway!

Hmm, when something changes drastically I call my dr. (in this case the surgeon's office) to get their input.

My biggest questions would be if you became more active (like cleaning more than you did) or if you recently went off pain meds.

Thanks Active. What do you mean by cleaning more than I did though? I have been off pain less for about 5.5 weeks now so I don't think that's the cause :/.

Well, sometimes people have alot of help immediately after surgery then turn back to "normal" after a few weeks. Doing things like loading/unloading the washing machine, emptying the dish washer, making beds, etc. can actually work your abs. So if you recently start doing things like that, you can get some abdominal soreness.

Thanks active. Now that you mention it I have been exerting myself a little more than usual. Maybe its time to take a few lay low days and see if that helps!
